I have been told of one restaurant which is to be closed for 3 days next week,has anyone heard of any more.It looks like the policy of penalising the over active hassle from front men at restaurants is to continue this year

sometimes i dont think this rule is fair...

we have met some lovely people who work in the restaurants, and now if we chat to them, we have to be so careful they dont get into trouble....

but the man at the baron, used to give us hell, and he was never caught.....

We have regularly eaten at Mr Cooks restaurant (across road from Elif Hotel) for the last 2 years as a friend of ours worked there, they were closed for a few days last year because one of the staff ran after some customers who had left something in the restaurant, the police saw him and thought he was hassling them and bang closed for 3 days no arguments.

I think they are takeing it the extreme, and the coucil are forgetting it's not only the bar owners that are looseing out it's the tourists. I fthey want people to return year after year then haveing bars closed down on every street corner, could make a newbie to Icmeler think twice about going back the next year.

they think icmeler is bad they want to go to mamaris we had a terrible time last year they would not leave us alone thats when we came into icmeler of a night no hassle some would ask you when you walked past but nothing like their

Last year the bar on the corner next to the supermarket below icr was closed twice. this man was absolutely out of order, people were actually avoiding going passed this place. i think it got closed down after a turkish couple heard the language he used to a elderly couple and they reported him. i agree sometimes the council go too far but it maybe is for the best in most cases vast majority give no hassle so no problem

its a good idea but they are taking it far to far cause most of the people at the restaurants and bars are just being friendly
there is only the odd couple that are rude but the police should watch properly and not just shut them down for no reason

I have been going a few years now and the hassle is just as bad as before only now they dont stand on the street to do it. Yes they are friendly,will ask where you are from etc and then ask you to have a drink/meal in their restuarant. I make a habit of NOT going somewhere if they hassle me and I very sweetly tell them this. My Sister and I went on 11th May for two weeks and the hassle if you are not with a man is far worse. There are exceptions but not many!

I don't think the hassle was anywhere near as bad last year as it used to be in years gone by. At the end of the day they are only trying to make a living.

Shoud've said that it was my Sister's first ever time in Icmeler and she loved it, but she said the hassling really started to annoy her and apart from that it was perfect holiday destination. Seems to me something else has to be done as obviously closing down places for a few days isn't working- perhaps they get more income from hassling people to go in than they get from closing down for few days???

Bars are not only being closed because of the hassle ... its also if the waiters are caught doing their dance shows

I think its worse in the day, perhaps cos the police arent around as much.

Your sauntering along to go Tansas or brekkie and every place mithers. Think its because everyone walkds down to the beach so if you go opposite way you dont escape the same.

We've crossed over from Baron / Valentines quite often to avoid him.

Perhaps the police should ask us as we're passing if there's been a problem then it might be fairer for the restaurant owners who aren't over doing the persuasion factor but genuinely did shout someone who had left something behind.

One restaurant was closed for one night because the waiters were seen dancing WITH THEIR SHIRTS OFF! How ridiculous is that? Yes, I think it's a good thing if the bars and restaurants get penalised for hassling, or being abusive to people who don't want to go in, but I'm sure no one complained about a few lads dancing without shirts. If anyone's that narrow minded, they should stay at home and watch TV.

To be honest the hassle continues. I get fed up being asked "where are you going". I went to Tansas recently and couldnt face the walk back down the street to my apartment so i took the scenic route round the village which took me 45 mins instead of 5 minutes.

Pop in was closed for a day & night a few days ago, because of dancing.. which is stupid whats icmeler without the boys dancing and the entertainment.. oh well.. im off next week, scared that things wont be the same out there.. but it usually is hehe.

the worst hassle comes from hairdressers and reps trying sell boat trips.

I just hold my mobile up to my ear and pretend to be having a conversation when I'm walking past restaurants and bars. Works a treat - no-one has ever interrupted or hassled me.

Ok it's soap box time

Most people go on holiday to experience the different cultures,local customs oh and to get cheap food and drink in a hot climate!! Part of the Turkish culture is hassle and bartering. So why should it be stopped. What has created this problem is the council allowing so many restaraunts, hair dressers jewellers etc to be opened. 5 years ago there was a fraction of the places that there are now and although the hassle was still there it was mostly friendly and good humoured. These guys need to make a living but now the pressure is on them because there are so many restaraunts etc that it is harder to attract people. When i first visited Icmeler some 12 or so years ago it was a part of Marmaris and was only open 6 months a year. The number of shops and restaraunts was a fraction of what there is now and you could generally visited the majority of good ones during a fortnight stay. There wasn't this rivalry between restaraunts and many an evening i have sat with a crowd listening to music till 2 or 3 in the morning. Nowadays because of competing against each other and raising the volume of the music, all music has to be stopped at midnight (maybe 11.30 soon )

I still love Icmeler and the many friends i have living there but like most holiday areas it has been commercialised.

If the council had taken better control in the first place they wouldn't have to be doing what they are doing now.
