Merhaba,
Just a quick question. Usually when I go to Içmeler I take UK Sterling Travellers Cheques. This year I have been advised to take Euro Travellers Cheques. Which is actually the best one to take? If I take UK sterling I know my exchange wont be so bad in Içmeler but will I be losing out if I take Euro TC's?
Thank you in advanced

I would say take sterling travellers cheques, i am taking a bit of everything, turkish currency we had about £100 worth left over from September and changed another £100 last week because the exchange rate was good, might have made a mistake with that one as it's still going up, we also will be taking plenty of English cash and also our cash cards, so we are ready for anything. Before anyone posts to tell you that you will have a hard time cashing travellers cheques i can tell you that i have taken them for 5 years and never had a problem

hi dj
your better off with either sterling or sterling travelers cheques you will get a better exchange rate using these you can also pay in sterling as most shops/bars/resturants will take it from you and give you change in lira
Current exchange rate
Euro aprrox 2.10 - 1Euro
GBP approx 2.45 - 1GBP
you might get slightly more in the resort

Thanks for your replys,
The past 3 years I have always taken £ Travellers Cheques and never had a problem changing them and I know I wont this year it was just that I normally get them from a well known travel agents and they are adding 3% on top for £ Travellers Cheques where as the € Travellers Cheques are commision free. If I know I'm gonna get a better rate with £ Travellers Cheques then I might just shop about on the net and see if anywhere offers 0% commission and a buy back service (In case we dont blow all our money

)

this is the same trick tc try with me every year the best rate is with sterling. you will find no probs changing them, i am going in 2 weeks with a little lira and travellers chq's. 1% commission at m and s so they are better to use as tc is 3%.

M and S is a bit far away for me to get changed (50 miles away) but had a look at my own bank and Halifax are doing the 1% commission also so might as well stay with my own bank
Thank you all for your help

i would take sterling because the euro rate is not good now so you would lose out if you had to change from pounds to euros

Definately Sterling I also had the same problem with TC they tried to tell me that they were going to be in the Euro! Told them I'd been before and plus trying to tell me I'd get charged twice here and there - told them no don't get charged there, wouldn't listen to me won't be going back there for my money.
