towel or not

10 May 2009 16:25

:?: with the ever decreasing luggage allowances think it might save weight not to take beach (sun bed) towels away this year and buy them on arrival from the underground stalls. i see more and more people buy them every year! has anyone done this as i thought you needed to wash towels before you use them..... any feed back would be a great help.

The wife says we are buying beach towels this year in Turkey to try and save on our luggage allowance.

hi Pip,
I've bought loads of white/cream "Lacoste" beach towels from underground market in icmeler & they are fantastic ! they are fine to use straight away & they wash great too!! I did buy my son a red crazy frog towel from the stalls near beach & he used it round the pool but after using it he did have a red tinge to him! (nothing to do with the sun!) :) so i'd stick to white/cream if I were you but most hotels/apartments will wash things for you for a small charge! :D

I never take them with me, always buy them from down the canal, 2 big beach towels / bath sheets for £10

10 May 2009 18:16

Might do the same myself this year, I've downsized my case this year. Other one weighed a ton empty. Will prob just leave them behind when we come home, or might see if Mr Kurt will look after them for when we are back in September.

Bet he will look after them Steve, there was a family staying for a month while we were there and they return every year to Kurt so they let them store towels, toaster, crockery all sorts :D :D

10 May 2009 19:06

Oh that's good I'll see if he'll store my iron there for me there aswell. I always take a proper iron as I think those travel irons are useless.

Iron???? On holiday, never, you need someone to do your packing properly, then you will not need to iron   That said i have a brand new never been used travel iron that is 17 years old that comes with us religiously

10 May 2009 19:59

I hate ironing, I'm an iron as I go person. We take turns ironing while where away while ones in the shower the other irons the clothes for the night out.

I'm with Jozzyd on this one, I don't do ironing. My travel iron is also being ditched this time after years of wasting valuable suitcase space, it stays in the case all through the holiday! still in it's little canvas bag! :D

I have bought towels on arrival before now, had no problems with colour running. Might do the same this time. From a lovely lady by the canal, very good quality.

10 May 2009 20:15

I don't iron on holiday either, if anything is creased I just hang it up while having a shower and the steam takes the creases out.

10 May 2009 20:54

is a great way to save on the weight of the luggage by not taking them as they do take up a lot of space and do weigh quite a lot
i would buy mine there as turkey has a good reputation for their towels

that's handy to know Steve, we'll have to nip next door to the Kurt to borrow it for our hol in August hehehehe
only kidding, ironing is the last thing I'd be doing on my hols - if it's creased when we get there, that's the way it stays

10 May 2009 21:26

no matter what you do their is allways creases in them blow it your on holiday who cares

10 May 2009 22:57

Years ago I always carried a travel iron, but never used it once. I never take it any more.

Last year I bought towels at the market for the sunbeds and these were fine to use straight away. All those kilos saved for more shoes.......

11 May 2009 07:39

last year i bourght towels from the market, got different shades of pink, brilliant from day 1, my brother got a black one, and spent a week with black fluff stuck to him :D

We take our travel iron away religiously, and the only time we've used it, was to re-heat some indian food we brought home in a doggy bag, metal tray one year. As we were in a hotel, there was no hob/microwave.

It worked a treat.

11 May 2009 08:24

We re doing the same this year after years of taking our own towels, buying towels when we get there,as for ironing i never used my travel iron, but it might come in handy ironing my left over rice
