It still doesn't say if this applies at the security check point at the entrance to the airport or at the security check at the gate.

If it is at the entrance there is nothing stopping you packing liquid in your hold luggage and then removing it before checking in hence the main check must be after this point.

It is possible that they now have a security check after passport control but I doubt it as they are sealing bags at duty free containing liquids, this is not done at a lot of airports in Europe as security is before duty free hence I believe the liquid check is after duty free and at the gate.

We will soon find out when the first travellers return at the end of this week.

We arrived home on Tuesday morning and there were no differences at all at Dalaman.

Still go straight through the security scanners etc, but there were no requests to remove liquids and put them into clear plastic bags, nothing at all. There weren't even any signs, because I recall seeing the usual knives/sharp objects etc sign, but nothing about liquids.

I had put a bottle of water in my hold luggage to take out once we got through, but had forgotten that I still had half a bottle left over from the transfer. No one questioned it at all.

There were no extra security measures in place at all as far as I could see. I just removed my water from the suitcase and put it in my hand luggage whilst we queued for check in.

I can only assume that these new rules will come into play as the season begins to kick off a little more.

Agree with Jools.
We came back last saturday from Dalaman airport and found that there were no restrictions.
Even thomas Cook rep advised us of that.

We had three bottles of water in hand luggage and nobody had any clear plastic bags and no one was quetioned

What they were very keen about was the weight and there were delays as several people tried to repack cases and put items into hand luggage. If not extra weight was charged at 10 euros per kilo.

yeah dalaman are always quite strict on their weight allowance and will often check to make sure your not over your limit thats why you have to watch when going through
10 euros extra per kilo is expensive with the exchange rate to the pound just now

10 euros per kilo.......daylight bleeping robbery!!! :

03 May 2009 10:19

yeah it is daylight robbery but they charge you £7 extra a kilo at the UK airports so it is more expensive due to the exchange rate but not too much more

10 Euros!?!?!?!?!? daylight robbery !

can I just check, that's Euros & not Lira?

03 May 2009 10:26

yeah definitely euros cause 10TL is far too cheap as it works out at about only £4 something so no way will they be cheaper than the UK as you know the airport is expensive for everythng especially the food and drink

Used my scales for the first time last October, they were spot on with the airports scales,a very good investment.

03 May 2009 18:44

Hopefully should be OK this year, as I have invested in large trolley holdall rather than my huge suitcase. Much lighter but hope I get everything in.

scales are a good idea
we used ours before we went in oct and they were exactly the same as the airport
its good cause at least you know if your overweight before you go instead of getting a nasty surprise at the airport
xxxx

04 May 2009 22:06

Thanks Katie - will have to get some scales to take with us

05 May 2009 19:19

yeah its a good idea
makes your holiday cheaper as it stops you getting a nasty surprise at the airport when they charge you a fortune for excess baggage

First they said the liquid restrictions were comming into force in April, then August 1st,now October 1st!!!!,wonder whats going on,obviously still not ready for the changeover yet.

If the check for liquids is made at the security point on entry into the airport how can they prevent anyone from carrying through a bottle of water in the suitcase which could be transferred to hand luggage prior to check in.
With the limit being set at 15kg for hold luggage the allowance given for hand luggage has to be fully used I therefore put my Tee Shirts - Shorts - Underwear and other items that it does not realy matter if they get a little creased in the hand luggage.
