Currency exchange

25 Apr 2009 03:08

I am a newbie to this site & to Icmeler - flying out on May 29th for my first holiday in Turkey. I was just wondering if someone could advise me if it is best to change my money here before I go or wait till I get there. If it is better to wait, where am I likely to get the best deal in Icmeler? :D

Best to wait until you get there. You could always just exchange £50 here before you go. Best to go to the supermarkets for your exchange rate, dont forget if you go regular you could haggle for a slightly higher rate.

I use my Nationwide flexi account, there is no charge for withdrawals and it always gives you a better exchange rate than I could get in Icmeler.

Have a great holiday.

Thanks Reesy. I am looking forward to the holiday very much, from what I have read on this forum Icmeler seems to be a great place.

best to wait until you get to icmeler as there is always a better exchange rate there than there is here

Its a great place, you will be hooked just like the rest of us. Are you leaving from Cardiff? We go on June 1st.

Yep, just take enough Lira to last the first day or so, then exchange the rest whilst there.
Also keep some pounds for the market, even better exchange rate when buying your T-shirts in Sterling :D :D

Hi Reesy,
We are flying from Bristol on the evening of the 29th

Hi Reesy I agree with what you say about the Nationwide card being good value, but I am sure I heard on the TV (Martin Lewis the money bloke) that even Nationwide were going to start charging this year. It might be worth double checking before you go or it might work out a little expencive.

Exchanging Currency Abroad

I will need to decide on the best option for exchanging money for my week in Icmeler starting 9th May. Should I exhange all my money before I leave and keep some Sterling for shopping as well or should I take a little Lira across and exchange Sterling when I get there or should I take some Lira and then withdraw money from an ATM while there (I bank with the Alliance & Leicester & Bank of Scotland, do both of these work in Icmeler ATM's?)

Thanks in advance,

Niall

HI and welcome to the forum Abbo - just to say that on the market, you'll need £££s in notes rather than coins, also the best exchange rates are in the supermarkets, we all have our favourites, but a good starting point is the one in the main square under the ICR offices - it's next to the Chill
Bar

Thanks both, but Turkey hasn't been affected by the Nationwide changes - thankfully. We had a letter from them yesterday and Turkey is fine.

Coming over in a few days

Are Scottish notes accepted in Icmeler, or is it best to have English? We were over last year, and can't remember what we took, I remember getting the English notes for the Visa, but can't remember if I got it all in english or not - any advice?

Wellcome to the forum Robgc.
No Scottish notes are not accepted in Icmeler.
