Is it just me, or is Icmeler becoming more expensive??

We visited Icmeler twice again this year. Apart from the drop in the exchange rate, I felt that things are substantially dearer than all my previous visits. In addition, the place was a lot quieter than previous visits & some of the people we know were bemoaning the fact that tourist numbers are down. They seem to blame it on the Russians, but I have my suspicions that the general cost of goods etc may be partly to blame.

For example, on the beach, the Del Mar was advertising 'Free' sunbeds & Efes at 3.00 YTL, yet, if you used their sunbeds, you were 'expected' to buy stuff from the restaurant/bar. Try as I may, I've yet to buy an Efes at 3.00ytl (3.50 for a small, 4.00 for a large). I even saw a couple of Ruskies being put off the beach because they (Typically) wouldn't buy anything.

We love Icmeler, but the way 'some' (and I emphasise...SOME!)businesses now appear to be subscribe to mis-leading people, may have a long term detrimental effect on the local economy.

Is this Turkey's way of preparing for entry to the EU (scheduled for 2010)? Or am I imagining it??

Turkey is not scheduled to join the eu in 2010.

The yhave not yet had accession talks as this was supposed to happen about 3 years ago near to xmas and they have just kept putting it off time and time again and once the talks are over and they are accepted then it will be 11 years after that they join.

As for Icmeler being more expensive than it was well of course it is.

The governmat taxes are steep and you only have to look at the price of petrol for that answer.

There are lots of places to eat cheap in Icmeler and also to drink cheap if you look for them but yes I do agree that prices in some places are extortianate and why the price of shellfish and fish(no pun intended) is so expensive when on the coast is beyond me

yeah.........it is getting more expensive...........having returned home on friday we found that the price of clothing for kids is ridiculous!
no matter how loud they shout cheaper than asda/matalan....im afraid for the majority of clothing..they arnt!
choice of clothing was strictly limited..........has lacoste taken over?
or is that the only label they have........lol
eating out has got a little more expensive too........but still cheap if you compare it to england...........and its not the same eating your steak indide when over there you get it in the outdoors and presented well......with waiting staff that are only to eager to please
drink.well................look around.....most places were charging 3 or 4 lira......but buffallo bar and surrounding area large effes were 1.75 to 2 lira
overall id say it has got more expensive............but ill still return..........even if the prices matched those over here....sun.....freindly people.........and a damn better way of making people relax than say blackpool.......

Thanks for the responses.

Admin: You're correct, the accession date is anticipated as 2014. 2010 is the date Turkiye was/is supposed to have implemented the EU open market philosophy.

The purpose of my posting was to ascertain if other people felt the same as me.

While prices HAVE gone up, Icmeler & Turkey in general (apart from Dalaman Airport) remains a relatively inexpensive place to visit. The paradox however is the same as it is everywhere, and that is, if prices continue to rise at a disproportionately exponential rate, then the tourist trade will inevitably suffer.

That said, ICMELER is still heads-above other resorts when it comes to R&R!!!!! Keep up the good work !!

To be honest I didn't see that much of a difference in June from last year. Obviously last year, I got 2.56 to the £, and this year I got 2.40 to the £. So obviously it is going to be slighlty more expensive but thats because our wonderful government in this country have totaly screwed up our Economy hence the £ being worth less than it used to be. But as far as bars charging more for things I found there to be very little differnence. I was there for 16 days and spent about £650 on myself and wanted for nothing. I was in Spain earlier this year and spent £450 in a week, and this did not include meals out because there was no decent places to eat so ate mostly take aways, and can't even say I drank alot, it's just expensive.

So if you copare Icmeler to Spain, I think it's still a very good value resort.

I totally agree with what you are saying Steve.

Shake our Government up a little and get some faith back, perhaps we could see our economy grow.

We can live in hope reesy.

Then maybe our Turkish friends in Icmeler will se an increase in visitor numbers because people can afford to go away again. Then everyone is happy.
