Ive only just got round to signing Cols very worthwhile petion and was rather surprised at the so few that have responded !!
Its a very worthwhile cause, having been out in winter and witnessed first hand the plight of these helpless little things! and they are helpless, becouse, to a point they are looked after during the season by tourists and bar kitchens, but in winter WELL!!!, A compleatly ferrell cat will survive, but the majority will suffer becouse they are half domesticated
So come on! whilst you are browsing just go a bit further and bring up colettes ""memo"" re the cats
Thanks in antisipation

Thanks Peli
I am not sure what good it will do though even with more signatures. But as long as it creates awareness of the situation then all is good.
Although I want to bring them all home with me when I go

Yeh I signed a few months ago. I'll be in
Icmeler from the early hours of Saturday morning, so there will be one more person who will care for the cats and dogs when they see them, if only for 2 weeks. Actually come to think of it my whole party will be doing the same thing (5 of us). We might end up looking like Dr Doolittle hehe

Even when the cats are feral they are still trusting when they are hungry. The ones I fed last year (a mum and kittens) ran as soon as I got near them at first but after a couple of days they were far more trusting. I signed the petition ages ago. The Turkish people just cannot understand why we would want animals in our homes, with the dirt and germs and stuff, it's a different culture after all. Not that I agree with the poisoning I am totally against it but have been brought up to care for animals which Turkish people have not.

yes, i signed ages ago.but last year i had a bad cat bite on my finger from an eager cat to get his breakfast.I always feed cats and dogs but the restraunts dont like it. I am sure i saw a charity shop in Turunc for the cats.

its a bit strong and an overgeneralisation to say that turkish people have not been brought up to care for animals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
have you had a good look around
icmeler and seen the number of locals walking some very beautiful dogs
my bf is turkish and i hate people assuming everyone is the same
whether they are english scottish or turkish

Sorry, may have worded it wrongly, all I meant was we perhaps view animals in a different light, no offence intended.

Regarding generalisation.- its very true I know a lot of Turkish families who have a dog and cats which they feed and look after on a regular basis its a catch 22 situation we feed them in season and they go feral in winter I find it hard to put an answer to it ,some would say dont feed them!! but hey were human!!!
A few years ago we were in N Cyprus, Kyrenia, and the local ex-pats had a charity run by volenteers which involved the local vetenary people, these volenteers would come and collect cats take them to the vet who would "doctor" them and bring them back to where they found them only asking for an afordable "donation" and also in a lot of buisnesses they had collection boxes, I have to say it was verv efective but most of us on here are only visitors!!

Hi Maryb yes you are right there is a shop in Turunc that collects for the cats there. Spoke to the women that run the shop and I'm sure they said they look after 20+ cats, some of them are very friendly, a huge tortoise shell tom is just adorable, but there is a smaller tortoise shell female and she can be really vicious. There use to be a women that raised money during the summer in
Icmeler so that stray cats and dogs could be neutered during the winter is she still about.

I shall have to find this shop in September
I haven't commented much on this as I don't really want to involve
ICR in my fight, but what confuses me, is that Turunc Goverment pay for the street cats to be neutered, why can't
Icmeler do the same?
Elaine do you mean Jeanie? She has a stall outside The Aqua
hotel ? I can't get a reply from her email or website?

Hi Elaine & Peter
I thought this topic was going to drop off the end of the page! re:- a mixture of Mary & my replies, isnt it a pity that something could not be organised in regard to neutering, obviuosly it needs someone over there full time to organise it!!
As I mentioned before I witnessed a very successfull organisation in Kyrenia I did speak to some one about their charity and even the vets agreed neutering and not culling was the answer
