travellers cheques,lira or sterling

I know this question has been asked a few time but can any one tell me whats the best way to take your holiday money.I dont have a nationwide card,but do have a post office credit card.we normally take travellers cheque but have read most people take cash but im sure it will be safe enough even if we hire a safe.Going away on 8/8/2008 so if any can rely i would be grateful

Personally i have never taken Travellers Cheques although they are easy enough to change,my friend changed them in 3bells a few times.Always thought you had to use a bank so learn something new everyday hehe

Usually if rate is good enough i change a little here just to see me through the first couple of days and the rest is in Sterling.As you say if you are going to hire a safety deposit box anyway then why not.

We have been to Icmeler for the last six years and have always taken our money in £10 notes. Locked it away in the safe and have never had any problems.
Also you can pay in sterling for a lot of things so it just makes it a lot easier.

Hi karenfarren. We normally take just enough lira to last us a day or two, a couple of hundred in sterling and the rest in travelers cheques. We find them realy easy to use. You can change them up in supermarkets and shops, and they, generaly give a good rate. We found a shop that gave us a realy good rate and we only took our passports there once as they gave you a card with all the details that they needed for the next time you changed a cheque with them. But the main reason we use them (we use american express cheques) is that is they do get lost or stolen they will replace them so you dont loose out, its your choise at the end of the day but I prefer to have that extra bit of security.

Have been watching currency exchange rate. Waiting to change £50 or so to tide us over on the first night cos we wont get there till 18.30ish.

I'm in the RBS and their exchange is 2.21 but they buy it at 2.58 NTL to the pound. Now that is a fair drop to us peeps.

I've been checking M&S, the post office and will also check the co-op to see what they're offering.

Its definitely worth changing most of your money in turkey with these rates. So if we're getting, 2.4 NTL to the pound over there, thats really not bad.

Its not good regarding exchange rate Ive just looked up,"xe.com" currancy converters, its only 2.291. Ive also looked on the Turkish bank."Garanti" and that is a true bank rate figure of2.2951 obviusly it moves a few points either way

I usually take a little bit of lira over to tide me over until I can change some. The rest is in sterling and I change it either in a bank or jewellery shop, better rates than exchange offices and don't charge commission.

Never had any problems at all.

Exchange rate is well down Turkish bank ,Garanti ,at close of play! was 2.386ytl so dont expect more than this suggest changeing only a bit each day and hope it goes up but as you say Penny keep away from exchange shops though
