I think phonecards are better, when we stayed at Pinewood last year we bought a different type of card from the newsagent nearby. He was very helpful.

I think you pin the no of the card during the call and it automatically takes credit off.
This was too complicated for me  so the newsagent did it for us and let us use his phone every time we rang home. ( where else in the world would you get that service?)
I also texted a couple of times which i don't think is very dear, but never used my mobile to phone home.

Linda just to warn you if someone rings (not texts) your phone from home both of you will get charged. A few years ago my mum rang me as a treat and it pinched all my credit

We bought phone card...but I did use my mobile on the first night and got charged £1 a min..(Im with o2).....You can buy a phone card for approx 8 lira...the shop next to Noels was only 5 lira and that gave you 40 credits which was a long time....just diall 0044 and then drop the 0 from your british code....If I remember rightly

Gosh Rosie you must have been on a fair while. I always get a phone card and can ring my eldest daughter and grandaughter every day and still not use all the credit on it they cost about £4 i think, but not too sure

Yeah i was and texting alot too! but next time im not using it! that £200 could have gone towards spending money in sept!

We've always found the phone cards very reasonable and much cheaper than using the mobiles to phone the kids.

We always carry our mobiles for emergencies though. :)

We use phone cards to ring home only 2-3 time during our 2 weeks, easy to use. We always take a mobile with us and leave it in the safe and check every time we use the safe to see if anybody has text us. Our family at home know only to text (because the cost) and they also have our apartments phone number just in case any emergencies crop up. Di.

we are with o2 so when we send a message home they will take 4 messages out of our allowance. also if you enrol with ITS for 2.99 per month we only pay 80p per minutes for a phone call to UK

Definitely get a phone card, phoning on mobile is extortionate!

I found it cheaper to send a multimedia message than it was to send a text message when I was there last month - i'm with 02 and it was 50p per text or 25p per multimedia message... and of course the great thing with the multimedia texts is that you can send a photo too to make everyone jealous!

maz whether you have pay as you go or contract with o2 you should not get charged for sending messages, if you have an allowance per month for every one you send they take 4 off your allowance, i just got my bill in last week for may and i did not get charged :)

Phone card for us too - take our mobiles incase anyone needs us but tell anyone to text us if we're needed and not to ring as it cost to take the call.

Got stung last September using hubbies mobile THINKING it was only 75p to connect then it would use the inclusive mins - ended up costing over £200

We bought 2 50mins phone cards for 10TYL BARGAIN !!!

23 Jun 2008 18:49

I have just got back and I had bought 100 min card which lasted me the whole of the two weeks for 10 lira it was a bargain

24 Jun 2008 08:48

I Don't know if they are still there, but there were some phone booths were the little garden area is opposite the end of the canal.

They are the ones we used when we were there and we used phone cards
