Whats allowed in Hand luggage?

15 Jun 2008 22:44

Just a quick question before I go, meant to ask before but got rambling on here and forgot  We didnt go anywhere last year and when we went to Icmeler in 2006 it was before all the restrictions came into force on what you can take in your hand luggage. We always used to take bottled water, food, my huge make up bag, you name it we squeezed it into the hand luggage   I havent a clue what is allowed now, can anyone enlighten me??? dont want any embarassing moments at check in

Have a look at http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/manw ... yProcedure

Also check on your airlines web page for maximum weight of hand luggage, normally 5KG, it has been known to weigh hand luggage.

hi annie!

they are very strict, or was last year, about liquids in a clear bag...

you need a clear bag, that zip locks or pops shut, about 7x8 in size ( guide only) all liquids, thats even includes lipstick, ( i got told to put mine in last year) they must be no bigger than 100ml.....we had to show to the manchester airport man, the size of each bottle....

any ciggi lighter also have to be in this clear bag, and the bag musnt be over full, you should be able to lie it flat with no bottles ontop of one another..

hope that helps, but check the airline/airport for details

Hi Annie

Like the others have said, check your airline AND airport as I beleive they are all different

at Manchester in April, there was a restriction on liquids of any type including makeup & they had to be 100 ml or less - you're only allowed one clear plastic bag and there are plenty of them available as you go through security

again, only 1 lighter and that had to be in the bag

Thanks for the tips. We are going with Thomson but not for 5 weeks yet. Im assuming they send you details with the tickets? The only liquids I personally would take through would be my lip gloss  I dont go anywhere without it. The kids usually take a plastic bottle of drink with them but I suppose I can buy all that after check in the departure lounge. i dont smoke so lighter fluid wont be a problem. So its only fluids that I need to be careful about? I will make sure I dont carry my nail scissors in my bag this time, got them confiscated last time

fluids it is Annie, just bear in mind that they class mascara as fluid too!
as for drinks, like you say you can get them once you've gone through security - otherwise you've to throw them in the bins just before security

Remember not to take your tweezers either - had mine confiscated. You could give someone a serious plucking on the plane, if you had half a mind to

Annie, I took no chances and bought my lipgloss after I'd gone through customs, Can't arrive at Dalaman without my lipgloss on
Also had eyelashes dyed for holiday due to the mascara thing, and so much easier for when you go swimming etc. on your holiday anyway :D
I keep hand luggage to a minimum now to avoid the worry of what might be in there that shouldn't be. Have a great holiday.

Thanks for the tips. Eylash tinting sounds a great idea. Was going to get my eyebrows done anyway so no tweezer/mile high  problems. Going to risk putting a box of wine in my case and hopefully it wont burst on the way. Im hoping I can get a few large bottles of water Airside as well as we will arrive at Icmeler around midnight at a guess and i want to have something in the fridge if its hot in the night and also to make a cuppa with in the morning.

Annie
just a thought - could you not get your wine at Duty Free?
hope it's white if you are going to brave it in your case - fingers crossed for ya!

18 Jun 2008 23:48

i think you could get wine at the duty free at dalaman which you can get on arrival

19 Jun 2008 05:29

annie, they do sell water at the apertments, it wasnt expensive last year, so if you cant carry any, just wait till you get there........

Hi Annie

What i normally do is freeze a few small btl of water the night before we go then just before we leave i put them in a cool bag (small one) bought it out off a £1 shop :D nip it in your case when you land at Dalaman just open your case up take bag out your water will still be nice and cool for you to drink on your transfer to your Apartment or Hotel :D

Hope this helps :D

Thanks Karen, I was hoping they would. And Celine I do usually freeze a few bottles of water but the cheap coolbag idea is a good idea thanks. And Fanny, do they sell boxes of wine at duty free, is it cheap? I was going to get a box from the supermarket just some chardonnay or similar but if they sell the same at duty free that would be easier. I prefer a box (not that Im an alcoholic or anything  ) its easier to keep in the fridge and have a glass when i fancy one rather than have to keep opening bottles. Anyone know if you can buy a box at duty free??

Annie, I'm sure you can buy boxes of wine at duty free, infact I think I've seen it mentioned on this site, I remember thinking I might do it next time I go because I do miss my wine when I go to Icmeler. I'm sure I saw somebody talking about taking wine out of the box and just taking the foil bag in the case to save on the weight. Or you could buy a box at duty free and take on as hand luggage. I think I'd prefer that. I can live without wine but it's tempting incase I fancy the odd glass, I've not really found a nice one there for the price I'd pay.

1000 Superking Black were £68 when we came back on the 8th June.
Plenty of bargains on the Onur Flights.
