Mosques?

31 May 2008 14:00

Hi Icmelarians. I have always wanted to visit the inside of a Mosque. I do know the rules about what to wear and i also know not to go at prayer time. Are the Mosque doors always open and is it acceptable to take pics in them? I was thinking of visiting the one by the out door market. 2 more sleeps. Happy hols. Jem xxxx

Be interesting to hear the answer to that question. I know you have to cover yourself up but don't know if you can go in anytime.

My kids would not let me go last year they were frightened of the singing. My little girl clung to me everytime she heard the call. I hope to have got her sorted for this year keep showing her the clips on Youtube of the mosques to get her use to the singing again

I always find the prayers from The muezzin quite haunting

Oh I love it especially when it is night time. There is something really special about it I think. Would love to go inside one. :D

Me too..... the sound is haunting

We were more aware of the calling to prayer when we were there in May, possibly because we didnt have the air con on .

We visited the mosque in Bayeu (? spelling?) it was really interesting....amazing though the women had to cover up but the men didn't

I've a recording on my phone of one of the mosques in Alanya  I think it's quite weird when you hear them now, most of them use tapes and if you listen closely enough you hear the tape bleep at the end when the recording is finished.

The bleep at begining and end is the microphone switching on as we know the person who does the one in Icmeler
