Pamukkale

18 May 2008 20:29

Has anyone been on a trip to Pamukkale?

My husband wants to go this year. Can you tell me how far it is from Icmeler and how long do you have to spend on a coach?

Also what time do you leave in the morning and what time do you return?

Thanks for your help

I visited Pamukalle about 12 years ago and thought the pools and calcified waterfalls were purely magical.
You could paddle through the water and pools although some areas were quite slippy so a little caution reccomended
There were areas which were drying out and looked grey due to the local hotels diverting the calcareous waters into their swimming pools.
Due to the damage being caused the local council had the Hotels knocked down a few years ago and again the water flows over the travetines and pools.
I have heard that the Cotton Castles are now back to something like their former glory.
While at the Castles visit Cleopatras pool were you can swim among submerged Grecian columns,or visit Hierepolis the stunning remains of a Roman City
This trip can be booked as a two day one night (staying in an Hotel overnight) also visiting the ruins of Ephesus, this is also a fantastic site.
The two day visit cost £55. per person
Ephesus on its own 1 day £28. per person
Pamukkale (Cotton Castles) 1 day £17 per person

As well as the Cotton Castles, not far away are the same sort of thing only in pink and red, these are caused by iron oxide staining the waters red and causing a similair effect.
In my oppinion though white is better.

Both these trips can be booked through Icmeleronline either from home or in resort.
This trip and others can be viewed on the Icmeleronline main page under Excursions.

Is it worth a visit?......In my opinion Yes

Thanks a lot Gene. It does look lovely in the photos.
As I said my huband wants to go but doesn't want to do the 2 day trip. I think it would be better myself as you must do a lot of traveling in one day.

2 day trip

Sandra

You and Bill would enjoy the two day to Ephesus and Pamukkale and the cost is 55gbp per person.

I will see you for a drink while you are here anyhow and i will go through your options for this trip when we meet up so that you can see Asena.

I went on the two day trip about 12 years ago and it was worth every penny. We were there on honeymoon and it made our holiday. Would love to go back but think we will wait a few years as kids are only 7 and 4 and don't think they would appreciate the beauty of it. Willl definately go when they are older. Pamukkale and Ephesus are well worth the travelling.

We did a one day to Pamukkale some years ago and it was awful not the place itself that was spectacular but the journey, it is a long way and I would strongly advise the two day trip. I would love to do it but we have been to both. We are starting to run out of trips to do now.

We did the two day trip last year and very much enjoyed it. I imagine doing it in one day would have been too much. Met nice people, became an 'extra' holiday! However we were staying in Gumbet (dont worry! never again!) so unsure how long it takes from Icmeler
