Yes I Am A Newbie LOL

02 May 2008 18:26

Hey all,

Just wanted to say hi to everyone in this little community.

My fiancee told me about this forum so I thought I'd sign up and have a natter to you all. Plus I'm planning on heading out to Icmeler in August. My fiancee is working out there for the season so I'm going out there for her birthday. Basically, I'm just asking for some advice about the area. I know about getting inoculations and the £10 visa when you arrive there, I just need to know a few other things, so it'll probably be easier if I just list them:

1. Do they accept euros?

2. Is it worth taking more than one currency? Or just stick with Turkish Lira?

3. My fiancee has said its best to only buy bottled water instead of using tap water. Is there much difference then or is it like other places where the tap water could be hazardous?

Many thanks in advance everyone.

Gazz

Hi Gazx and welcome to the fourm, how lucky is your fiance to be working out there for the season I'm so jealous!! Looking forward to your reviews and pictures and hope you have a fab time

Yes Euros is accepted at home in Icmeler!! It would be best to stick with turkish lira and to take sterling travellers cheques as I think with the exchange rate you get a better deal.
Definately stick with the bottled water over there!
When you arrive at dalaman just follow the crowd to pay for your £10 visa, make sure it is a £10 note as I've heard they don't give change if you pay with a £20 and then follow everyone to passport control. Speak to your doctor about inoculations and that I've never bothered with them and not had a problem!!!

If you mean by more one than currency because you are planning on buying stuff then yes, if you plan on buying clothes, shoes, anything like that its best to pay with the pound as you get a better exchange rate from them, then they will give change in lira or they will give a better deal say 3 for £10 instead of 3 for £15 in the lira, also if you are planning on taking money out of a bank when your over there its best with nationwide as they dont charge to take your money out, all over banks charge you. hope you like icmeler :D

Hiya and welcome :) We took the £ with us last year as well as some lira to start off with. We got a good exchange rate with the £ and every shop and restaurant we went into was more than happy to accept them. We didn't get innoculations to go to Icmeler. Definitely drink bottled water. I hope u have a lovely time. Me and hubbie are going back in August and are sooooo looking forward to it.

1 yes and £s as already mentioned - also got offered a herd of camels for my daughter ha ha
2 with the Euro being as low as it is at the moment, I don't bother changing it back on return from my Europe hols but take them to icmeler as emergency funds - work out how much it equates to in Lira or £ though so you know what deal your getting when you spend it
3 bottled water to drink and tap water for brushing your teeth - we've been told it's safe to drink perse but has a much higher mineral content than UK so can upset your stomach

I t was only by chance really, her parents bought into the Blue Star aparments out there and because she hadnt long left her job here her parents took her along to work out there. Granted she didnt want to go without me but I wasnt able to go with otherwise I would have jacked my job in and gone worked out there with her.

Still shes coming home end of june for 2 weeks. Just hope the time flies by I'm missing her so much
