What gift to buy

04 Apr 2008 17:48

We are returning to the Bal appts that we went to last year. We want to take a gift for the owner Eddie and was wondering what we could take as a gift for a Turkish man. Any ideas

we bought a nice tin of biscuits from harrods at the airport for our appartment owners they were gratefully received last year .

As Cassie says, a nice tin of shortbread biscuits or good chocolates or toffees or something (Turkish chocolate is uuuurgh) or what a calendar with countryside landscapes (oh blimey, I'm starting to sound like my mother  ) Or you could just try scouting around National Trust gift shops for something "local"....

Don't do what I tried to do one year for a Turkish friend - and take over a traditional Devon cream tea....
The scones and jam survived, but the clotted cream had turned to butter by the time I reached Icmeler (even though it was in a cooler bag!)

Well... it seemed like a good idea at the time :?

We always take a tin of Roses, some galaxy chocolate, options sachets of drinking chocolate and a nice tin of biscuits or shortbread. They sure love their chocolate over there.

I like to also take some souveniers from the UK. In the past I have taken tea towels, calendars, mugs etc.

A gift from your home town/area always seems to be appreciated. Mind you, even vacuum packed, I draw the line somewhere well below Smokies.
And, as everyone else is saying, UK chocolate.

How do you manage to take a tin of Roses with you??? With the bagage allowance possibly being reduced on some flights, are you taking any clothes???

05 Apr 2008 20:35

I have plenty of clothes  but my DH travels lightly, so the tin of roses goes into his case. I have actually had it in the hand luggage before, plenty of room

We have always had 20kg of baggage allowance in the past.

We take Cadbury's chocolate fingers. deodorant, Johnsons baby bath, tea bags, and have even been known to take English sausages sometimes!! Oh and Heinz baked beans because even if they can buy them they are quite expensive. :) :)

Baked beans for us too Sue!!
Oh and hair products for the receptionist - UK brands from hairdressers

My husband is turkish and we always take his family a small gift when we go and see them. Usually take chocolate and biscuits, which the kids normally eat, and a few toiletries like deodorant or body spray, as they can be quite expensive over there and are always appreciated. Hope this helps.

I was asked to bring tetley tea bags and bisto gravy granules for one of the hotels.
