Legionnaire's disease caught in Icmeler

12 Jan 2008 10:55

Was bored and was having a play on the internet and came across the following story.

Poor bloke but no surprise with the name of the hotel.

This is why hotel names change frequently and once an accommodation is found you should always check online to find some reviews.

I personally know of 3 hotels that are renamed after a few years but you will not find any of them on our websites

I had them symptoms while I was over there last year I went to the doctor by the market and he said it was a virus, once i got home after various tests i was diagnosed with asthma

It says he caught it from the shower? Thought you caught it from enclosed Air Con, *runs off to google LD*

the doctors arent to sure if it was caused by the shower or the aircon they did ask me loads of questions like where have I been, have i been in contact with aircon, showers, anyone else i could have contracted from, suppose i will never know really :)

Yes you can catch it from a shower,

Prevention
Avoid hotels with previous outbreaks where the air-conditioning system may be contaminated. Water for showers and baths should be heated to 55C before use, if legionella is suspected

Just found this on the net.

the showers where i stay dont have hot water in the mornings sometimes as they are solar powered, does this mean it is not safe then or does the shower have to run initially to 55C if it has not been used over the winter. I am a bit worried now.

I had xrays and antibiotics when i got home the xray was clear but the pills did not work, in the end they put it down to asthma still suffering now, but it wont stop me from going back in May

Back to the first post and always make sure you know what you are booking.

Iguana apartments do not have solar heating.

Every apartment has its own Imersion heater so you control your water temperature.

Thats strange sue when we stayed in a apartment in marmaris last year, the air con was dripping a brown substance over our beds,we all felt absolutely dreadfull, had to visit the doctor when we came home to be told that my daughter who has never had asthma is now suffering from it.Shes still not as well as she was before we went away

it is a bit of a coincidence maybe it was the aircon but the dr asked if i had been using the shower - yes, had i been near aircon - yes on the plane, had a been in a sauna - yes i went for a turkish bath on the first day, suppose i will never know what caused it but it could happen anywhere in the world it wont put me off going back home to Icmeler.

I am still suffering as i feel i dont have as much energy as last year but that could be the steriods in my inhalers and my age
