Give me a clue?

We have always enjoyed our food, wherever we have eaten (nearly always!) but have been a bit shy of ordering real turkish food. Mainly , in case we don't like it as much as all the other food, but also we dont want to be thick and order something tooo spicey, so please I would appriciate some suggestions and opinions, as I would really like to go for it this year.Thanks in advance. Tuvak Guvek ( I think) its a sort of Chicken casserole that comes in a bowl is it delicious - really worth trying!

Thats the one - sorry nearly got it right but i really do like it. We have a Turkish Restuarant here in Sheffield just opened last year and we are friends with the owner - that is the meal I always have when we go there.

see when every people say to em they find turkish food spicey i have to disagree, i dont think ive had a meal thats ben that spicey, i enjoy spaical food but most turkish food to me isnt spaicey, more tomatoe tastes?*

but you should try lahmacun in turkey, likepizza thing, not spicey and the best food every

You simply have to try sac kavurma! It is the nicest dish I have ever tasted!

It is made up of meat, tomatoes, onion,s mushrooms and peppers, and herbs, all served on one of those big dishes with the flame underneath.

I have had a couple, but the best has to be at the Champagne bar.

A sashlick kebab is also lovely.

We've had the slow cooked lamb that's got to be ordered 24 hours in advance - sorry but don't know what it's called.

Absolutely divine, same sort of thing as braising steak and to die for. It's cooked with carrots etc and they burst with flavour!! Will be making sure we hae at least one when we go in 2 weeks

Leg Of Lamb.

Had it in May, Mouth watering and deliciouse,a must when on a visit to Turkey

Oooh dont talk about leg of lamb, its my fave .... pity my hubby doesnt like lamb so I have to go for the lamb dishes instead (cos the leg is usually for two to share ... unless anyone out there knows a place that sells leg of lamb for "billy no mates's") ... lamb dishes are definately a good choice!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm,that leg of lamb sounds scrumptious,has anyone got any idea roughly,how much it is?would it be alot more expensive than say,two people ordering a steak?and is it this meal that you have to order 24hrs in advance?

Thats right debi,you order 24 hours in advance.
I paid £8 per person in May but I think the going rate is about £10 per person.

Chicken breast with all the trimmings costs about £5.50
Peppered steak again with all the trimmings costs £8.50

this per person.

Thanks Gene,thats handy to know,we have always wondered how much it was,always looked really expensive. £10 per person is not too bad at all,would have thought it would cost alot more.So we shall be sampling the leg of lamb this year for sure.

We've only ever had them at the Majestic by the canal and they were lovely.

Fancy trying somewhere else for a change though, so will be keeping an eye out for Gene/John/Rami's recommendations.

Never had the leg of lamb at the Famous Kitchen but this is supposed to be the best place
The Sunday lunch here is also reccomended.

Titanic do a great leg of lamb too -never seen so much food in my whole life! veg, rice, jacket potato and chips! when I said oh please no chips, they laughed - thought us english like chips with everything! but it was delicious - didnt manage the chips - this was last year, and yes had to book in advance and pay a deposit - think it was about £8 or £10 but was worth it.

Tracy,heard alot of good things about the Titanic,but never been,where exactley is it??anywhere near the canal,cos that really is all we know,as we have tended in the past to stay in that area,Captain Bullshits being the furthest we have travelled,hahaha,lazy or what?

HI Debi, Titanic is on the road near Tansas on the opposite side. Last year was our first trip to Imeler - so since it is over a year ago, I cant remember names of other restuarants nearby. Its on the same road as the disco - again on the opposite side. Its on a corner.

The food was great - not the cheapest - but who wants cheap food?

Once again, everyone there so friendly Oscar the main man biggish guy and spike with "Gareth gates - who??" hair.

we are returning 2 weeks on Friday - cant wait!!
