Just arrived back and have just got to tell you about my scare in Dalaman Airport.

On arriving at Dalaman I had informed my good wife that we needed new visas because the ones we had got in late May were expired during our August visit,so Had inserted the required £10 notes in the 3 passports.
Being the wise person she is along with all the other members of the fairer sex, she decides that I know nothing and that she will ask the smiling visa control officer if the visa was still good,
he said "Yes" and smugly Ann and our little group then went through passport control having just saved £30.

Now on the way out of the country Passport control decided that our visa was out of date and informed security who took us into a small office were anther smiling gentleman informed me that our visa was 6 days out of date.
Having checked his financial chart he decides that he could let us out of the country if we paid a fine of 453 YTL about £180.

After then having to have our passports photo copied and variouse forms filled we were allowed to leave Dalaman.
But not before giving me a dressing down saying that I should know better after visiting his country so many times and not being aware of my visa state ie:90 days.
Visions of Midnight Express went through my mind especially when this security guard said that I had beautifull eyes, gods honour thats what he said.

I was also informed that if they wanted to they could ban me from visiting Turkey for 5 years but would not push the issue (I think my eyes got us through that one)

I again have bragging rights in our house and I think in future Mrs Gene will listen to my words.

That sounds a bit scary. But it reminded me that a few years ago I needed an extended stay visa and had to go to the Turkish Consulate ,the one near Harrods in London.I arrived at 9am sharp and the queue was over 100 yards long.I managed to jump this as my company had pre arranged the paper work.I went to an office on the 1st floor and I got my visa.I asked the bloke why Turkey charge UK £10 for a visiors visa and he told me Turkish visitors to the UK have to pay 4 times as much to enter the UK.He also told me there were over 100,000 Turks in London alone. Then the weirdest thing happened. He was on the phone and had difficulty understanding a Woman on the phone and asked me to speak to her.I kid you not I ended up giving her advice on how to enter Turkey and how the visitor visa system worked.
Really weird.

I think at the last count the visa harge for a Turkish citizen to go to the UK was £110 and if they were refused they did not get their money back

31 Aug 2007 13:12

Also when I was handing my money over the security officer asked me if I would be visiting Turkey again and I replied "Yes"

But Ann in her most Diplomatic way replied "Not Likely"

Why is it that us men accept authority but our good wives seem to get their heckles up and confront the powers that be.
Then again it was me facing deportation or worse?
would my beautifull eyes have saved me then?

ps.
Ann wanted to write you a message John stating that it was her own stubbornes in the face of sound advice that prompted her actions.

But I said dont bother darling we all make mistakes and that I woulnt mention this episode again.

Thanks for all your messages, and I know if the worse were to have happened you would all have popped in to see me when you come on your annual holidays as I hear the visiting times arnt to bad.
