the language

hi there, how many of you have thought about or started to learn the turkish language?. Myself and my kids have and we know the basics but it is sooooooo hard lol got loads of books and cd roms, but its great when we go out there and use a little each time cos we can see how much they appreciate what we have learned even if we sound a bit daft lol :P

Merhaba,
I really love to learn languages but I find Turkish very difficult.
When I learned French at school it used to click into place quite quickly and I can still remember phrases etc and understand a little if it is spoken slowly.

Turkish is a totally different kettle of fish, the grammar is different - there are suffixes, missing verbs, one word with a suffix added means a sentence in English. So confusing , and it is the one language I would really love to speak confidently.

I don't suppose I will ever be able to do that but knowing a couple of phrases and sometimes answering in Turkish if someone asks how you are is brilliant and the Turkish people seem to love it when you try :D
Gule Gule xxx (I think!!)

Hiyaa

Yeah i totally agree about Turkish being hard to learn. I am ok at learning languages, done french and spanish at A'level in school. But find Turkish hard.
I know the basics to get me by but i seem to understand more than i can speak :?
I speak on msn and phone to turkish friends in Icmeler, but dont have any books etc, have sort of self taught myself. But i am getting by...i think haha

I had Turkish lessons at our local language school for a year and I found them extremely difficult. Hubby has just completed his second year and is going back for a third. Our house has more Turkish Phrase books and CD's than furniture and we are still struggling with very basic Turkish!!! I am very proud of my Certificate though and just a bit ashamed that I have given up. I am sure a few extra trips to Turkey will help
