Good books

30 Jul 2007 20:15

I am going to Icmeler 5 weeks today and wonder what books anyone can recommend.
I usually like Martine Cole and Lesley Pearce. I don't like mushy Mills & Boon or Catherine Cookson .
Please can someone suggest a good book as I like nothing better than getting lost in a book, lying on the beach with an ice cold Efes :D

I would recommend the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella - they are absolutely brilliant and a laugh a minute. Mags :D

Good Reading

I reccomend Wilbur Smith books, I have read every single book of his and never been dissapointed, also after watching The Da Vinci Code twice I decided to read the book which is much better than the movie, my daughter swears by Iris Gower.

I can recommend The Bone Collector by Jeffrey Deaver - you won't be able to put it down !

If you like steamy (and I mean steamy!) buy Girl With a One Track Mind by Abby Lee or I read the book Ugly whilst I was in Icmeler, its true but heart wrenching.

I'd recommend any books written by Catherine Alliot, they are really good and funny too. I like a book I don't have to concentrate too much on, that I can put down (ie. because I'm people watching!) and then pick up and not be lost as to where I am.

Also when I was in Icmeler in May/June, read two books by Carole Matthews (Lets Meet on Platform 8 and A Whiff of Scandal), and really enjoyed them too.

I just recently read a book & I couldn't put it down! It's a true story about a little girls childhood! It's called 'Damaged' by Cathy Glass!

Hi, if you like Martina Cole, try reading any of Mandasue Heller's books. Its a bit like Martina Cole but instead of being based in London, hers are all based round Manchester.

You could try some of the autobiographies like Martine McCrutheon's mum, she's written two books and both of them are really good.

For funny books, try "Getting rid of Matthew", its very easy reading and quite funny.
Hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I have a varied choice among the suggestions you made.
Icmelerwonderbabe, I have read 'Trust me' and it is so moving and intense.
I read it in Icmeler a couple of years ago and I couldn't put it down, even though I was in Icmeler, the best place on earth!
When I got to the final chapter I couldn't stop the tears flowing  I think every body around the pool thought I was crazy!
Another one of Lesley Pearce' is 'Remember Me' and that is also quite good.

Ann has just informed me that a book by Toni Maguire called
"Dont Tell Mummy" is both gripping and heart wrenching and once you start reading it you wont be able to put it down.

I also like Lesley Pearce and her books are great you don't want to put them down once you start.

Beverly know what you mean re Marion Keyes - last year as we sat by the pool I was reading one of hers and kept laughing out loud and when mum kept asking what I was laughing at I would try to explain but couldn't, but she soon realised what I'd been laughing at when she read it after me.
