Don't forget a tenner for each one of your party for visas upon arrival at Dalaman Airport. :!:

You can relax in knowing that you have made an excellent choice in destination for your holiday. Read as much of this board as you can and you will gain some excellent info.

Best advise of all just relax and enjoy yourselves which I'm sure you will.

I have never heard one person who has been to Icmeler to say they didn't enjoy it, has anyone else heard this?

02 May 2007 23:20

I hope you really enjoy your first time in Icmeler - it really is a very special place.

The first time we went was 1997, on a last minute holiday, and we really didn't get any choice of destination. We were not really looking forward to it, but thought we'd go with the flow. How surprised we were. It was perfect. We both cried all the way home and couldn't speak to each other until we were leaving Manchester airport. I bet everyone on this forum will say the same thing ? I've always been of the opinion that if you can afford to go abroad, you should see as much of the world as possible. My opinion has now been changed and we've been to Icmeler 15 times now. Even when we do go to other places, there's no comparison whatsoever.

Friends of ours stayed at the Sun Village last year and absolutely loved it.

You're right Skilly
Several of my friends and colleagues have gone to Icmeler on my recommendation and have loved it and gone back again.
In fact, you quite often find people you get chatting to on the beach or in bars have been going back for many years.
I can honestly say I don't feel the same about anywhere else I've been to on holiday!

hi conki2007,

first of all prepare your tastebuds for some truly scrumptious food at the many first class restaurants around the resort. secondly, be prepared to meet the nicest, friendliest people you could hope to meet anywhere and thirdly, be prepared to feel very sad when you're coach comes to take you back to the airport at the end of your holiday :( .

The first time we left Icmeler I found it very hard to hold back the tears after a truly wonderful send off from the staff at the apartments and our fellow guests. Then you pass some of your favourite bars and restaurants on the way out of the resort and if any of your new found friends who work there see you, you get huge waves and huge smiles and at that point you promise yourself you'll be coming back next year. What a place.

Thanks all for advice you've made me even more excited than i was already. roll on the 31st 8)

Hi conki2007,
Are you going on the 31st May? only in your original piece you say you are going the begining of May?

I would recommend the jeep safari, and the boat trips, the kids will love these two trips.

Only take about £50 worth of Turkish Lira with you to get you started.
The rest of our money we take in Sterling, making sure we have plenty of £5 and £10 notes for when we go to the market because the traders will offer things at say 4 for £10.
Money can be changed at any shop, bar or exchange office, look round for the best rates.
Hire a safe at your hotel or apartments to keep your belongings safe.

Most restaurents serve meals till about 10pm then the mood changes and dancing, music and entertainment takes place, most bars having to
switch their music off at midnight, but you can sit and talk as long as you like,a few bars do close at 2am though.

Dont be put off by the waiters outside the restaurents trying to get you in to eat at their tables, its a good banter and you just have to say no politely.
If you have spent the evening in a restaurent and need a lift back to your apartments most bars will offer a complimentary taxi service.

Walk round in the daylight to get your bearings, taking note of the bars that you have heard mention on the forum.
Walk beside the canal at night with all the lights twinkling, here you will also find an aray of first class bars and restaurents.

Market day is on Wednesday, get there early before the heat of the day really sets in.

A lot of the fun is finding things out for yourselfes but hope these few little things help to get you started.

we used to take english money to the market and isntead of 4 items for £10 i got them down to £8 but in turkish lira

I think this is very dependant on the exchange rate.

At least for those who are not regular Turkey travellers knowing exactly what you are paying i.e. £10 is very comforting.

when i first starting going to turkey i used £10 for years but then i tried one year with the lira and got loads of bargains

11 May 2007 14:39

Sorry about mix up of dates am going the 31st may so beginning of june can't think straight as already got holiday head on. going to start packing soon are t-shirts still cheap over there only hubby threatening to take one set of clothes and buy more out there. so if you see some bloke wondering around in the same clothes every day it's my other half coz he didn't take enough money.

11 May 2007 15:57

We dont want to get your husband mixed up with David, "The Best Dressed Bloke" in Icmeler.

A lot of people buy their T shirts etc when they get over in Icmeler and yes there are many a bargain to be had.
