Another wee story.......

29 Nov 2006 18:23

Thought i would tell you one of my many stories of Icmeler.

It was our first time in Icmeler and one night somebody told us to go to a place called Honest Johns in the old village . (Does any one remember it?)
It's a great place , they said . Lovely meals , they said. Very reasonable , they said. What they forgot to mention , it was a wee shack in the middle of nowhere. We thought the driver of the wee train was having a laugh when he dropped us off .
Anyway in we went , husband two daughters and myself. We asked for the menu . What menu ? , asked Honest John .We don't have menus , you tell us what you want and we'll make it for you.
We told him to surprise us . What happened next is quite hard to put into words. We had one of the best meals we have ever eaten in Icmeler.
It was a small miracle what came out of that make shift kitchen that night.
To this day we still don't know the name of any of the dishes.

The place was quite busy with what looked like regulars and what an atmosphere. We stayed there until the wee small hours , infact we were there so long that our youngest daughter fell asleep over the table . We asked for the bill which we were really quite worried about , having never seen a menu . Don't know why , couldn't believe how cheap it was after all we had ate and drank.
Feeling a wee bit tipsy we were a bit concered at how we were going to carry our daughter home . Out of nowhere this beach buggy appeared , Honest John had asked his friend to give us a lift back to our apartments.
What a great end to a really fantastic night. Where in the world would that happen , apart from in Icmeler.

One of the many reasons why we go back year after year.

Fantastic story me.
You find that the smaller cafes and bars are best especially those tucked away in the Old Village.
Nothing is to much trouble for our hosts.

Does anyone know if this place is still open?

Sounds like a good place to have a stroll to.
