Sorry if this has been asked before, but is it better to withdraw Lira or Sterling from the ATMs

I understand it depends on what debit/credit card you are using. I have a Halifax Clarity Credit Card and with it I get a better rate withdrawing lira and I don't pay any transaction or conversion charges. It is advisable to notify your bank of your intention to use your card abroad and also clarify their charges. I always ensure I have a 2nd card as a back up as I have known people that had problems with the machines not being able to read the chip and pin but I have never had any problems.

Hi, just come back 2 weeks ago and for the 1st time ever we took Sterling to change whilst there and what a good decision! ... Better rate, no Bank charges and will be doing it again when we return for 'Round 2' in September

Obviously, it's personal choice but we didn't have any security issues at all in the Le'toile and had a Safe that was Safe! Lol

It all depends on who you bank with.

The past few years I have withdrawn Sterling from the ATM as my bank advised that I would be charge twice, one for withdrawing money and another charge if I was with drawing Lisa due to conversion charges.

I have had no problem whatsoever using the ATMs, I counted about 9 ATM,s just along from the Love Boat next to the canal.
But note: not all of them give out Sterling, the one I use is the HSBC.

The small supermarket next to Tandoori Sizzler gave better rates converting your £,s to Lira.

Forgot to add that we've used the same Supermarket for our last 2 visits, gives a better rate than the 'Change Office' over the road

We'll be using him again in 59 days when we're back for another 10 days, following our 2 weeks already we've had late June! ... Greedy I know!
