Taking medicine on your flight

Hi All
Have just booked our holiday to Icmeler following a 2 year absence,really looking forward to it.My daughter's boyfriend is coming with us for the first time and he has a heart condition which he takes daily medication for could anyone tell me if he is allowed to take his medication onto the flight with him,he takes it at regular times so dont fancy having it in his suitcase just in case we are delayed.

I always take all my medication with me in my hand luggage just in case my hold luggage goes missing.

Raynard, have you ever been questioned about your medication at airport security?

Not yet Debs but I leave my tablets in the boxes with my name and address on from the chemists, and I always take the part of the prescription which I use for my next prescription with me just to prove that my medication is prescribed by a doctor.

As Raynard says, definitely take it in hand luggage and take the prescription with you too.

I'm a diabetic & carry my insulin & needles in my hand luggage.

I carry a letter from my doctor advising the necessity of having it with me. I've been stopped at secuirty both in the UK & abroad & they have always let me through after my explanation & showing them my letter.

Its also worth noting its only ocassionally that I get stopped.

They check mine every time as they include liquids. As mentioned earlier keep them in their original containers and take the list from the doctor with you. Last year a woman stood next to me queried why I had kept my medicine whilst she had the same one confiscated. She was told that if she had brought the doctor`s list with her as I`d done she could have kept it.

Also I`d read that certain drugs are not allowed into some countries so I checked some of my list with the Turkish consulate as I didn't want to risk having them confiscated. I would never put anything important in my suitcase especially something crucial like my prescription drugs.

Thanks for all the replies will make sure i pass all this information onto him, i know he takes Warfarin but not sure what else,

As mentioned above by others definitely keep your medicines with you and have a note from your doctors stating you require these medicines. Also please make sure that you inform your travel insurance of all medication that he is on. Some insurances will become null and void if you have not told them medications you are taking regularly & make sure that your travel insurance covers turkey as it is not in the EU.
