I have read that the wasps are more out and about end of September beginning of October is this true, I was going to book a late deal for October but im scared of them even in the garden I start screaming even though my husband says I should just ignore them, so we would end up arguing the whole holiday telling me not to be so stupid anyone got ant thoughts on this one.

Tannedjulie. You will read on other forums that wasps are very active in Sept/October and this has been my experience. It does not stop me going at that time of year or spoil my holiday but if you are seriously scared of them I would give careful consideration to going in October. I have been stung several times and even whilst in a shop trying on a scarf where the wasp had obviously hidden. It is the children I feel sorry for as they stand on them in their bare feet and get stung.

I understand they are actually honey bees from the mountains. They come down and are so drowsy they are literally falling from the sky. I had one drop down behind me whilst leaning over chatting on my sunbed and when I leaned back it stung my bum cheek, painful was not the word. The pain did not last that long but made me cry like a baby for a few seconds.

I'm actually allergic to wasp stings, but have survived many sept/october trips unscathed, although my friend was stung last year. You can't avoid them, but a glass of water with something sticky like jam or honey in, placed a little distance away will attract them away from you. They won't stop me going at what I think is the best time of the year.

we encountered quite a lot of wasps last year in sept and oct. 3 of us got stung - myself and 2 of my children. It didn't spoil our holiday at all but did make us be a bit more aware of them. Like one of the above posters said they can sting you if you stand on them which happened to my son on the beach, he was coming out of the sea and walking back to the sun bed with nothing on his feet and he got stung as hadn't seen the wasp on the sand. I dont like wasps at all - even less since i was stung, but in a way now that i have been stung i know exactly what it feels like so kind of know what to expect and its not that bad - painful yes but it doesn't last for too long
