sneaky lunch!

01 Oct 2012 17:58

I am sorry, but I feel rather cross when people fill their carrier bags full of the boiled eggs and bread at the breakfast table (you've seen them with the furtive glances at the staff) before filling their boots with goodies for a freebie lunch!
The bread is so cheap and freshly baked, I don't understand why people do this!
Also, the "furtive" glances around beforehand only draws attention to other diners. I personally was v happy with my breakfast of 2 boiled eggs, 2 bread slices and a little feta. If I was very hungry then i would pay for a full english!

Can't say this is something I've ever seen Poppy, but must say I'd share your views on it. There's another thread about price increases in Icmeler, but I think we've a few years yet before we resort to such desperate measures!

Not seen this either, but agree, to be able to buy food from the shops at such low prices I can't see why you would!
We bought huge, fresh baked loaves, which worked out to be 25p each, and fed 6 of us!
Plus I did a veg spag Bol, for 6 and it cost £4.00 for the lot!!!!
Certainly a cheap alternative if your wishing to save a few lira, and the spag Bol sauces out there are a 100 times better than dolmio!!!!

I can only say that this is the first time that one of our members has brought this to the attention of the forum

It happens and it always will

We call them "hi ho' ers as in Hi ho hi ho its off to work we go, they normally have a backpack hence the nickname and yes they get talked about by all the staff and hotel guests wherever they go

First time I saw that was a number of years ago when the Mersoy first went all inclusive for the Russians. Christ never mind what they ate for breakfast & the amount of food they wasted before leaving they helped themselves again in considerable quantities & even filled litre bottles with juices from the cooler machines to take away with them. Staff said nothing even although they saw what was going on.That was for just for 'a snack' before they returned for lunch, then back for high tea then again finally for their evening meal. Don't understand how the Russian girls are so slim. Sadly other guests lost out because of their phenomenal greed. We never returned to the Mersoy after that.
One morning saw a Russian guy going to his table with a large tray of alcoholic drinks, 8am in the morning!!!!!!!!, owner noticed & after that no alcohol was allowed before 10am.

I have seen this many times when in hotels in Majorca, mostly G-----s. there's no need for it, it's just greed.

Seen this happening a couple of weeks ago at the Golmar. Quite a well-to-do looking English 'lady' too, took an empty juice bottle up and filled it up, returned to her table and put it in her bag.....then lo and behold another empty bottle appeared and also got filled up. She also came back to her table with boiled eggs but they seemed to disappear - unless she ate the egg shell

A couple of years ago it was Slovakian children who were raiding the buffet and yes they had backpacks, and their practice was to fill the juice into tumblers, return to their table then transfer it into a 2 litre bottle...took quite a few trips to the dispensers for that.

I wish the hotels would do something about this, I find it quite annoying.....if you can't afford to go on holiday then you shouldn't be there. No wonder the price of hotels/holidays keep going up

i have never seen this done and cannot think why they feel the need to do it in the first place, Icmeler is so cheap to eat out and many restaurants will make you a sandwich for a small price, i normally have one made for me on departure day due to the extortinate prices at Dalaman airport.

I think this is 'human nature' and have even seen it done on cruise ships with mainly British guests! I think the guests think they are squirrels and have to salt the food away for a rainy day! The juice situation is the same - at breakfast the bottles come out and are filled with the juice for either a trip out or even sitting round the pool. I am a people watcher and have witnessed some peculiar pick-ups ie a man taking handfuls of jam and marmalade and putting them in his bag every morning at breakfast. Perhaps he was stocking up so he could afford to take another cruise  I think the best one was on the last day when all persons were disembarking and it was discovered that the boules had disappeared with a passenger; lets hope they were charged for excess luggage
