We found that this year taxi drivers were not using their meters and charging 10 liras for a very short journey, which we understand should have metered at 6tl. The least we paid was 5.5tl and were frequently asked for 10tl. We have to use taxis, even for a short distance, as my husband has walking difficulties. I would advise that you negotiate the price before going into the taxi and usually the driver agrees. One night a driver said he had no change and would come back the following day - I am still waiting!

I guess the best thing to do is ask the driver how much for the journey before you set off.If he refuses then ask another until you get a decent price.

Taken this morning outside Tansas, you would be daft to pay 10 lira to go to the square

Thanks for posting this info. That's exactly what I and others in my accommodation thought, hence the reason I finally negotiated before getting into the taxi. Thought I would post as a warning to others. Interestingly, the lowest fare was from the rank where you took this photo.
