Just been on the news that the head office of TC in Bradford is to close with the loss of 500 jobs . OMG ! What next ? Is it time to get worried ?

Hope not weve got 2 holidays booked with them for Aug & December at least wev'e got insurance fingers crossed they are getting rid of dead wood so to speak

It's their administration office that's closing, but not until March 2013.

Thomas Cook had two flights a week out of Leeds Bradford Airport, Mondays and Fridays. All their Monday flights were cancelled and passengers offered alternative flights.

The simple answer is yes they are having major problems. Have a look at the recent threads

viewtopic.php?t=15754If they hadn't been successful in their shareholder's meeting on 29th May they would have gone into administration by 15th June and that comes direct from the papers sent out to shareholders. The banks have extended their loans for a further three years as they were struggling but these can be called in at any time and TC could also default on the payments. Just hope that they've got buyers for the Spanish hotels and the planes they're offloading and then things could settle down a little bit.
Just hope everyone's booked with a credit card.

It's not their head office, it's one of the administration offices. Most of the posts are being relocated to other offices, there are not that many compulsory redundancies, but given people probably won't want to relocate, in reality they'll be making more redundant than they need to (I think back to when my job moved to Scotland 10 years ago - there were no redundancies cause there were jobs for everyone up there, but only one person went, so all our teams took redundancy instead). I live in Leeds, so there was a very big piece on this on our local news last night. They are streamlining their back office operations, and can save millions on premises alone, hence the closure of one of their (I think) 5 or so UK administration locations. Many companies are doing this, it makes economic sense given the present economic climate, it just doesn't get reported, and doesn't really have any link with how well (or not) a company is trading.
On a personal note for me, their complaint handling staff are based in Bradford and I've got a live complaint in with them - they were all allowed to leave early yesterday after the news broke, so guess it'll take just a bit longer to hear back from them!

im also booked with thomas cook for my hol in Sept this year and im not that worried anymore despite posting my original post should we worry?
I think a massive company like this will be doing everything they can to pull themselves through and obviously any job losses at the moment are making the news as its happening to a lot of people

flying with tc in august glad i paid by credit card ,if they went under we will be running out airlines to fly with who s left easy jet, monarch,expensive thomson

I received a reply to my complaint today. The reply was a waste of paper and they could have saved the cost of the postage. Even the standard of the letter could have been marked with 'could do better'
Anyway their response to my complaint was basically TOUGH, but they put in at the end of the letter 'I hope this will not put you off travelling with us in the future.' I should have realised I wouldn't get anywhere with them when the person I spoke to in Customer Services told me that he wouldn't book with them. Says it all really!

Doesn't matter how expensive your replacement flight would be, as you booked with a credit card under 'consequential losses' you would be eligible to claim back the difference in the cost of the two flights, as well as the cost of the original flight. So really you would have only paid your original cost, whatever was the cost of your replacement flight.

Hmmmm... next year's Thomas Cook flight prices are hilarious... I was looking at a week in May, a return flight Bristol to
Dalaman - £270 per person EACH WAY

If those prices hold Thomson will be cheaper and gain all the passengers who usually book with TC.
Surely given the state TC are in they should be trying to lure people to book with them not drive them away - if I have to travel to Bristol (as it's my nearest airport since they are not operating any Dalaman flights out of Exeter Airport at all next summer

) I may as well hold on for Easyjet to release their flights - at least that way I'll still be able to afford to visit

When do they usually release their flights? We've only used Aegean and regretfully this year Thomas Cook.

flights from glasgow next august over 1000.pd for 2 thats before baggage ect was added with tc.

Well I'm impressed with one thing - got a resolution to my complaint in under a week. I complained about 1 of 4 seats booked with extra leg room not having extra leg room as it was too close to the emergency slide which severely restricted the legroom over 2/3 of the seat. I asked if I could have a credit for that one seat against another flight - they've given me a credit for all 4 extra leg room seats I booked. Happy enough with that - and I see also that you can't book 31a on a 3+3 as extra legroom anymore, so that's a right result
