Hi everyone, I have been arranging my currency and the travel agent suggested I take Euros instead of Stirling as they are strong against the pound. Is anyone doing this and are the benefits significant. Finance is not my forte so I would appreciate your input. Thanks

Changing stirling to euro and then changing euro to lira does not make sense
Travel agents in the UK do have some amazing theories but I would ignore this one
The Turkish currecny is Lira and the UK currency is the great British pound so why a travel agent tell you to do this is beyond me

Thanks for replying. They were my thoughts but the travel agent confused me. Off to change my Scottish pounds into English.

year travel agent must be mad you get a great exchange rate on sterling better than euro

The rate for Stirling is 2.82 at the moment in the change office on our block and he has just informed us that the rate for Scottish bank notes is 2.5

I don't know why the rate is less for Scottish bank notes as they are sterling too. They clearly have sterling written on them, yet the rate is less them for throughout Europe. We made the mistake of not changing to English banknotes the first time we visited
Icmeler and were losing quite a lot every time we cashed in.The rate for English was 2.52,while Scottish was only 2.00

Travel agents do come out with some rubbish at times I have to agree.
I went to my local one the other day, to see what rate they were offering.
"2.56tl to the pound sir, that's a great rate at the moment".
I replied with "it's 2.82 in Icmeler".
"Oh I doubt that sir, and do remember you will get less in resort than in the uk, and they charge a very high commission"!
To which I replied, "you are very factually incorrect, do you actually know what you're talking about?"
"ohhhh.....errrrm......"
"Yeah I thought not, bye bye!"

Simple arithmetic suggests the TA is full of hot air
£1000 = 1212 EUROS
£1000 = 2,800 YTL (approx)
1212E = 2,700 YTL (approx)
So you would effectively lose 100 Lira for every grand you exchanged.

And stop a few headaches, surprisingly enough
All that exchanging money and gambling not once, but twice, on maybe gaining a few lira or so (which is what you would need to do to make this worthwhile) is one thing I can really do without worrying about.
