So sad to sell flights.

14 May 2012 19:32

Sorry if I'm not supposed to put this on here but I don't know what else to do. We were so looking forward to our holiday this year but a close family member has been diagnosed with a serious illness which means we can't go and have two flights for sale for August. Please contact if interested. :(

Sorry to read about this situation.

Can I just forewarn you that selling tickets might not be as simple as you think. We booked as a large family party in September flying out in July. One of the families (4 people) are having to cancel. We thought it would be a case of perhaps just paying for name changes of £30 each. However, this is not the case and we have been told that the people that buy the tickets will have to pay £30 each (name change) plus the difference between the original fare and what the fare is now on their system. It means that a fare that originally cost around £180 x 4 (£724) has jumped up to around £330 each totalling £1320 !!! I dont know who you will be flying with but we are booked with Easyjet.

Perhaps your airline will have different terms and conditions.

Thats shocking! But yet if the fare had of been lower they wouldn't offer a refund of the difference! Bad service if you ask me. You've already paid for a product so why should you then have to pay an uplift because 'they' decide to put the prices up? Plus they have had the money from when it was booked, sitting in their bank and gathering interest so again they win!

damn, this is the 2nd post I have commented on and both have been rants. I'm actually in a good mood today as well lol

I feel like having a rant too.

Just to add to add to my previous post the fare today is £345.98 plus £30 name change = £375.98. A difference of almost £200 per person. This means anyone buying the 4 flights will have to pay out £800 more than when the original flights were purchased !!!

As I have already said its not so simple and so unfair.

It does actually depend on the airline when it comes to a name change. Having spent 7 years working for a tour operator I have known airlines just to charge for the name change no extra. If you ring them and explain the situation and see what they say, you might be lucky sometimes it depends who you speak to I have had them changed for nothing.!!!! who are you flying with?

if the flight price has gone up by say 40 per person you might have to pay the extra plus the admin charge it still might turn out to be cheap oiption for someone if they have friends to stay with. have you spoken to your travel insurance people.

I hope you get it sorted out,xx

Thankyou for all the replies, we ended up having to just cancel the flights and lose the money as Monarch wanted £240,00 to do the name change, the price of the flights would have remained the same but I don't know how they can justify £240.00 for typing in a different name!

Woody - not sure of your circumstances but have you tried your travel insurance? You may be covered for your cancellation with them. Hope you can sort something :)

I checked with a number of insurers last year if they would cover claims like this but I was told that the insurance would not cover anyone that wasn't going on the holiday with us, even though I was going to declare all their existing medical conditions. I wouldn't rule it out though, it's definitely worth a try.

I am in the same position . I have three flights booked can't get a refund but I am not cancelling flights
If I cancel flights they have my money ,then they are in the position to sell flights again and make even more money .
I think thats wrong
