have we made the right choice

Hi all, another newbie to Icmeler here, been to Marmaris and Bodrum before but loved the look of Icmeler, we usually go to Portugal every year, we have our own timeshare there but have decided to pass it back , the crime rate there has really got bad the last couple of years, with lots of muggings and hold ups at villas, last year my daughter hired a villa with her 2 children and they were burgled. so hopefully none of this in Icmeler, really looking forward to a holliday where you are not frightened to go out and walk about during the evening, have never seen anything on this forum with regards to crime etc, hope i have got it right .
Will be arriving September 14th for 10 nights and staying at the Faber apparments, also bringing my sister and brother in law and my 82 year old dad, we know we have to walk into the town at night and hopefully this will not be a problem like it was in Portugal , got to the point where we stayed close to our apartment at night with the fear of being mugged, so you can imagine we are a bit anxious about Icmeler , hope you can put our worries to bed for us and tell us what a fantastic time we will have.

Hi Jenny, no need to worry you will all have a great time. We have been going to Turkey for 12 years and have always felt perfectly safe, more than i do at home. Icmeler is perfect really friendly and helpful people. We have also been to other places in Turkey (as we are this year Bitez) and have never felt uneasy, relax and have a great time we will be back in Icmeler next year just like last year, enjoy

your last line says it all , you will have a fantastic time. I take my family and am taking my 7 year old neice this year and we always stay in the old village and walk to town most nights. I can honestly say that we have never been bothered or felt unsafe at anytime in Icmeler. There are always lots of tourists about at anytime at night and always close to a bar but never felt the need to duck in anywhere for safetys sake. I personally find the people in Icmeler very friendly and always have a bit of banter with the shop owners and fron tmen on the bars. Have a relaxing holiday and enjoy.

You will all be fine, never seen any trouble or criminal activity in Icmeler in all my 5 years there. As Yorkshire robin says you feel safe where ever you are and the locals are always on hand even if you do need help. You will love the place and the people will make you want to come back for more, just see the popularity of Icmeler on here.

Hi Jenny, You have little to worry about in Turkey especially Icmeler. Generally you will find locals friendly and helpful. Crime is rare and muggings are certainly not a problem. My 14 year old son was out with some waiters we know in Icmeler (something I wouldn't have let him do at home). We left an expensive camera in a restaurant only to find it returned to our apartments by the owner. This is a place where money dropped on the pavement is left where it is incase the rightful owner comes back for it! To be honest, if there is trouble it is usually involves 2 Britons.

You always have to be carefull where ever you are.
We have been coming to Icmeler for 12 years and apart one incident in 2003, stolen holdall, in the grounds
of a popular hotel, which was recovered and the persons arrested.
We have never felt at any risk at all. We are often out until late always felt safe and secure.
One warning however. Once you have been to Icmeler you probably won;t go anywhere else.

Icmeler has one of the best crime-intelligence systems known to man! It works thus;

In the rare event of someone commiting a crime against a tourist, the details of what occurred & a description of the suspect & the goods stolen are passed from bar to bar, restaurant to restaurant, business to business via phone/e-mail & text ... within a very short time, the whole of Icmeler knows to be on the look-out (including Taxi/Dolmus drivers) ... the police crime clear-up rate is second-to none and the culprits are usually caught before committing too many more crimes!!!!

hi jenny. you have no need to worry in icmeler. i have often walked around day/night alone and not been one bit scared and im a young girl of 22. ive also left my handbag on the beach whilst having a dip in the sea...and yes it was still there when i got back! My parents have been to icmeler numerous times, and i have only ever heard storys about how friendly, kind and caring the people of icmeler are, I totally agree with them im coming in sep myself! have a wonderful holiday, knowing you will not have to worry about anything as the people are always happy to help anytime of the day or night xxx

Can only agree with what has been said on here so far. It is safe however as with any place just take simple precautions and you will be fine.

Icmeler is very flat and a very slow stroll to the main sqaure from Faber is about 15 minutes. There are plenty of bars and restaurant near the Faber as well

Honestly and truthfully, you'll be absolutely fine, and September is a lovely time. Hoping to sneak a week in then myself so I'll be there on my birthday in the middle of the month. Just to add too, many of the restaurants will pick you up from your apartments and take you back there too - we've done this a few times staying in the old village, and it's only a few lira for a taxi to take you into the centre. It's a lovely walk, we've stayed near the back in September and the temperature was just lovely.

We have been going for many years and have never heard of any muggings at all, of course you have to be cautious at night wherever you live but i feel safer in Icmeler at night than I do in my own country.
We had a friend dropped a wad of banknotes under his table a few years ago whilst having a meal, he went back to his hotel a little worse for wear after a few efes. one of the waiters found the money and it was returned to my friend the next day.

Oh without a doubt you made the right choice, we have never ever felt threatened or worried in Icmeler. You will absolutely love it! It's such a friendly place, the people can't do enough for you, there are great eating places and bars. We've been to Portugal and much prefer Turkey we've made some great friends there ...roll on June 8th!

You have made a great choice. I am a woman and wouldn't worry about walking out at night, I could walk all around Icmeler on my own at midnight and be quite safe. Many bars / resturants will take you back to your hotel etc. by car if required, all free of charge. We like to walk, never had any problems.

We stayed at the faber 2 years ago its a great choice theres plenty of nice walks and bars with nice places to eat in the old town so you dont have to walk to the main strip if you dont fancy the walk the only thing i would advise is try to get a ground floor apartment for your dad they have some attic type apartments at the top of the building they are very nice but theres obviously a few flights of stairs to get to them other than that you can relax and enjoy your first visit to paradise

Have been going every year for the last twenty years, and we have never felt frightened. In fact I would rather walk down from the old village into Icmeler than walking down into our own village at home. That tells you a lot.
I'm sure you have made the perfect choice in choosing Icmeler, and that you will not regret it.

Yes is a very safe and friendly place and I wouldnt be worried at all about walking around and being mugged or burgled.But I would not leave money on the beach while I went off for lunch or expect to get it back if I left it anywhere. Humanity is humanity wherever you go and the luck of the draw comes into it.
