Spirit Measures

As someone who is used to 35ml measures of spirits in the wee toon, I found it quite unusual this year to be served in "measures" in many of the bars. When I asked what the measure was I was told that it was the equivalent of the English "double" or 50ml, barely enough to clean my contact lenses

This was confirmed for me at our apartments when I asked to see the measure used for my wife's brandy (when they had any) and confirmed again when my raki was poured. My memory is not the best but I can't recall these measures being used in previous years and it was always done to the bar person's judgement with a pourer.

It certainly did not happen in all the bars and also depended on who did the pouring but I wonder if I should take my own 70ml measure with me next year for personal use

One holiday i had bought so much i knew i was going to be charged for the excess bagguage allowance, so knowing i had two bottles of whisky that i had bought for my friend in UK i thought i would sell them rather than take them in my luggage. Cheeky buggers asked me if it was fake whisky!!!!
The buyer of the whisky found out about 5 drams later that it was genuine and i could have have had a very nice bag for the fraction of its price! No i did not take advantage.

Reminds me of another time when the guys was trying to sell us watches , showing us the catalogue insisisting these are the latest models blah blah, my sister said to the seller " how do we know that the catalogue is not fake?" The seller cracked up laughing and we bought a couple of watches.

Can't say we came across this weetooney, though tbh, the barman's measure does vary hugely from place to place haha. Captain Bullshit's has to be the one place we've regulary found that the barman's hand seems to slip more and more as the night progresses - and they're never shy on how much they put in [edited to add] - "in the first place!"

If you buy a Rufus Roo travel jacket you'd have room in your baggage allowance for your whisky.
