This is a new kid on the block, as far as I know and it is situated on the road from the canal up to the main road. The "R" in the RSC refers to a certain Glasgow football club that famously wears blue with a distinctly orange tinge. We popped in on our way back to the old village on the night of the Old Firm match and were quietly watching a Spanish game when the waiters sussed that Mrs Weetoony is a "R" supporter. This was the catalyst for the DJ to play the most bilious, sectarian music with an Ulster perspective that we have ever heard. Needless to say, we made a hasty exit, not to return.
There may well be a Scots/Ulster market for this garbage but we would suggest that it should be contained within our own shores and not exported to a place such as Icmeler. I very much doubt if the staff have a clue as to the nature of the content and abject hatred contained in the songs that were played and we are sure, if they knew, they would try to find other employment.
Icmeler does not need this Mr. Mayor

We walked past this bar several times during our fortnight's holiday in June and apart from a couple of staff, not once did we ever see a single customer in the place.

In 3 weeks out there so far this year think we've seen probably about 4 customers in total. I'm sure you're right and they aren't quite up with what they are attempting to portray there, probably saw the similar named establishment in
Marmaris and thought they were onto a winner. I couldn't help thinking the first time I saw this bar in it's new guise in May that they were limiting their market considerably, and that was before I heard any of their playlist!
Mind you, perhaps it's just the legacy of the building. Last year I was in there in it's former guise, the chap running the evenings entertainment said "Would you like to give us a tune on karaoke? If you don't see it in the book, I'm bound to have it, I've got a library of over 50 thousand songs here". Got any Lady Gaga says me. Errr no says the man!

We walked past a couple of nights in late September and again not a soul in there. It was the old Geordie bar after it had moved from the main drag. Curious to know why there isn`t a Scunthorpe United bar in Icmeler, please be careful with your replies i get hurt easily, lol.

I'd be surprised if there was a Scunthorpe United bar in Scunthorpe. We also heard this music this year, we stay at The Alvaro which is virtually over the road. Hardly ever saw anyone in there, was the same when it was the Geordie bar as well always empty, I don't think the location helps.

I think it used to be called Ali BaBas Jazz bar a few years back.
Always packed in those days.

I’ll never understand people; this bar wasn’t empty the nights I was in it, I wouldn’t go into a bar I didn’t like, so there for would have no need to comment on it.
I’ve also walked past the Irish bar; having never gone into it, so have no need to commented either about it.
Each to their own I say.
11 Oct 2011 10:59
When were you there mate? As I said we stay at the Alvaro so we walked past it most nights in the height of the season in August, and it was nearly always empty, thats why I commented in the thread, I thought that was what forums were all about, commenting. I know someone said in a previous thread about the Geordie bar that the reason that closed was due to the rent being so high on the place, high rent and hardly any custom is a recipe for disaster.

Perhaps I should have explained more in my reply to the OP. We've stayed 3 weeks this year at the Eda, right across the road from RSC Bar, and as such, had a view daily of the activity. The OP did go in, and was commenting on their experience, which imho is a valid use of a discussion forum?
I wouldn't go as far to say I'll never understand, but it does puzzle me when people have to comment that they have no comment and therefore other people shouldn't really comment either? Leads me down a different avenue of wondering about those folk that live under bridges for the sole purpose of scaring passing goats

The meaning of forum is 'a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged' so I don't have a problem with people giving comments whether I agree with them or not, as this is a forum after all.
I fail to understand though why any business would open where they are limited to only a certain group of people. This is business suicide especially as there are now less tourists and most of these are spending less. As far as I could see this year there were only a handful of places that were doing well so why any business would open and operate in a way to exclude certain customers is beyond me.

Having allegiance to a particular group, be it football, with say Liverpool Bar, Rangers Bars Celtic bar etc will of course stop some people going in therefore losing potential customers. However there are people who like/support these teams and they will go out of their way to find these places and perhaps only go in there. A few people in my work spent all their time for example in the rangers bar in Marmaris, they support Rangers abd went out of their wy each nught to go there. Each to their own
When I was there in May the RFC bar usually had a small crowd in
I do however agree with the OP that playing tunes which are offensive/ sectarian is not what i would want particularly in what is regardded as a family resport

Totally agree with this post. It must be hard enough for bar owners over there without pigeon holeing there business to a certain group, that's not a business plan it's a dream that will end in a nightmare, I really can't see the point (business wise) in trying to attract a certain group (sorry but sectarian music is only going to attract one group) totall madness and the sooner it goes bust the better when it spills out that ****

At the end of the day, it all comes down to religion - I walked past here last week and the songs about No Surrender etc were blaring out. I think this is disgusting in a holiday resort, and I certainly would not set foot in this place. Having said that, I would not set foot in a Celtic bar either, or a Liverpool, Man U, or any other football bar. Leave this rot away from Icmeler, hopefully the Mayor will put a stop to all this nonsense.

We are all different and like different things. You can see that from some of the replys you get about best bars or eating places. Its simple though, just vote with your feet!!

I'm pleased to see that the majority of you agree about this and thanks reesy for confirmation of the "music". Unfortunately, this is not a problem confined to
Icmeler and we have come across it in "R" bars in Salou, Gran Canaria and obviously Marmaris. My country has some wonderful exports and I have a glass of one of these (Springbank 10YO) as I type, but this is certainly not one of them. Our government is currently doing its best to wipe this nonsense out at home and I fully support them in their battle, I can only hope that someone in authority in Icmeler can also take up the cudgel.
I would point out that I would also have done a similar post if this had involved CFC, as I find that the knuckle draggers on both sides of the "divide" are equally culpable.
I would very much doubt that I would come across an issue such as this in any other supporters' bar in the world.

Weetoony. Absolutely!! I couldn't agree more with you and as Keith says we can take our own action against such premises/proprietors - no customers means no business

even the decor is offensive representing sectarian graffiti,no place for this kind of thing in the 21st century

Totally agree with this, we went to turunc for the day and passed a bar blaring out sectarian songs. I was horrified, I wrote a piece on the trunk forum. No place for this in holiday resort. ( or in my opinion anywhere)

And there you have it, the Ulster flag and the Union flag (the UJ is only called such when its flown on a ship) have no place in Turkey,
THE ONLY national flag that should be flown there is at the top of the hill!
