Is there any word of where the stall holders from the canal have gone? Heard they were going to be up beside the post office but don't think they are.
It was so nice walking by the canal at night, browsing for bargains and having a laugh with some of the stall holders.
Where did all the stalls from under Kingsland go? Best bargains in
Icmeler

Some of the stallholders from the canal have opened little shops around the resort - you will recognise them when you see them but the canal is not looking good and there is definitely no pull to bring you down there. The underground market is worse! nothing there only I think maybe the tatooist but it is just dismal! hope things improve. The changes they were making were supposed to improve the resort but these were definitely not changes for the better.

It makes me wonder what the newcomers to
Icmeler think of these area's as they didn't know how they looked before, bit of an eyesore now. It was all part of the atmosphere. Sad.

icmeler into a mini benerdorm taking away all the things that made it different .

We have been back 1 week not done review yet as i have been ill .

But the good side of it was we were told that the Canal Stalls will be back next season as the council know now it was a BIG mistake. We were told this by someone who works on the council.

Nice to here, lets hope it's true.

I hope they do come back it made night time walks by the canal. Not seen it since they took stalls away but sis was there in May and said it looked bleak and uninviting.

Thats great news, as the above post states I really hope they do come back.
Who was it said that a petition will do no good? A few members did.
They now know the removal of the canal stalls is a mistake WITHOUT a petition and a fuss etc, if we had got many signatures and many letters to the mayor as soon as we got news of it we may have had them back now.

Is it too late to let the stall holders know that they can come back NOW!!!! Pity no petition was put on the forum or did I miss it? Glad to hear mayor has had a change of mind.

No petition existed, I and a few others suggested it but many were too quick to give in and just accept it and said it was too late. I didn't- I emailed the Mayor complaining and my friend and sister did also. Don't know if any others bothered to but it's clear he has had a change of heart and has accepted that it was wrong to remove them.
We have to stand up for changes we do not like and will spoil OUR resort. It's people like us the visitors and the restaurants, stall holders, shop owners, accomadation owners and workers etc that these changes affect- if anything should jeopardise the resort we love and the livelyhood of those who work hard every summer we should not take it lying down!

I thought that I read on the forum that there was no point in a petition to the mayor as he did not make the decision, it was a court order and there was no choice, so a petition wouldn't have made any difference. Hope I'm wrong as I really missed the stalls this year and only went down the canal area once, such a shame. If the mayor has a choice I hope he brings them back for next season.

hy all just back one hour ago will post more later, but toupdate on the canal it is not the same, but not as bad as i was expecting. Aparently the stalls were removed to allow new block paving to be laid as the old was quite dangerous, all that area is to be relaid, and new stalls replaced, with individual units so that the council can easily remove stallholders who do not pay there rent...

Walked down the canal last night and can honestly say I didn't miss the stalls at all, in fact it was nice to walk down there without having to avoid all the people congregated around them. I know a lot of you miss them but just my point of view.

That would make a lot of sense. Why were people not told it was only a temporary thing? I agree that some of the paving was a bit dodgy, suppose we will just have to wait and see.

I do hope they come back and under ground market. like to walk round them after having a meal, its the one time other half will shop with me.

So how did the rumour of the local
hotel guests complaining of the noise etc start? I really do wish facts were 100% true before members been told things as we all thought they were gone for good. Mind, you would have thought they would have done the work before the season started as Turkish builders are not like some of the ones here (cowboy hats and horses lol!) and seem to get building work done quickly. I will just wait and see but I really hope they come back.
