self catering

06 Aug 2006 11:32

we've been self catering a couple of times in icmeler and will be doing the same in sept & the main reason for this is that we like the extra space and a bedroom as well as a lounge, also the fridge is a plus. i know you can get a fridge in the higher priced hotels but they are to expensive for us. the question i am asking is, does anyone else get the impression that if you do even the smallest amount of cooking in your apartment ie a bacon butty, you seem to get the cold shoulder from the manager, even if you have a snack there now and then it doesn't satisfy them. if i wanted to eat at the place i am staying all the time i would pay for full board or AI. that is the only, and THE ONLY thing i don't like about turkey  when we have been SC in lanzarote we didn't have the slightest dirty looks or the feeling of being ignored. don't get me wrong i will never stop going to icmeler but people going for the first time it might put them off.
i'm thinking of booking in the tuncay appts next year if it is available and wondered if these are any better as i have heard some very good reports on this forum about them. sorry this is a long post but it does bother me

Thats a shame youve had that reaction skilly. In all honesty ive always went to icmeler self catering and never encountered the cold shoulder for preparing food in our apartment and we've stayed at many different places. Has this happened on more than one occassion in different apartments? We dont normally eat much in our apartments, maybe the odd breakfast and lunch but wouldnt be very happy if i was paying money for a facility that was grudged!

hi i know what you mean thay make you feel guilty we have had the same but dont let it put you off a couple of years back we went bed and breakfast in a expensive hotel in kussadasi it was high season and unbearably hot and thay had a security guard on the gates to try and search you in case you had bought water from outside thay wanted you to buy it there extortonate prices but we told them were to go and gave them a terrible report on ht.
i prefer sc as it gives you a choice of where to eat and the managers should remember that thay have a lot of our money already cant thay see its better to spread our money around the resort to keep everyone in buisness

i don't like to name the places on this forum as i don't want to lose business for them, but where we are going this year someone who has been to these apartments before has told us that the manager gives you dirty looks if you even bring in water from the supermarket instead of buying it from him  so this is not very nice to look forward to, even though i can't wait to go.
glasgow girl, could you let me know where you have been that this doesn't happen, you can pm me if its not allowed to post them.

Hi Skilly
Sorry to hear that you've had problems. We stayed in apartments in July and they used to shout at us for bringing in stuff, but we just laughed at them and found that they were only messing with us. Maybe you should print off the definition of s/c for the apartments you've had a bad time with. If you want me to pm you with the names of the apartments we use let me know. xx

Just a point here and that is if this is an aapartment complex that I sell then please let me know about it and I will put it right

08 Aug 2006 16:38

Don't worry admin, it wasn't one of your complex's. we visited (not stayed at) the apartments last year and the staff seemed to have changed and i have heard good reveiws on this forum since so the problem may have been fixed, i may be too sensitive but i did feel uncomfortable bringing food in and not eating there all the time.
i prefer not to name the appts because as i say, the staff had changed and because of the good reveiws i have seen on HT things must be better and i don't want to jeapordize their business, hope you understand.

sc apartments

When we stayed at some apartments in the old village of Icmeler we were nearly stripped searched when we had come back from the supermarkets till I got a bit annoyed and pulled my shopping bag away, then it got to the point where I just flaunted what I had bought just to annoy them. It was like the Great Escape trying to get out on a night time we were waylaid and had twenty questions as to where we were were going and why. It got to the point where I felt like Kevin the Harry Enfiled character i.e where are you going answer somewhere etc. (my son taught me well). Hope you don't have the same prolem it really spoiledmy holiday.
