Everything is so different

Hi all
havnt been on the forums for months so have just spent the last hour reading topics and looking at all the new photos.
I cant believe how everything has/is changed since we were there last September. A part of me is a little sad about all the changes that are happening in Icmeler. We have been going now for eight years and love the place

Can I just ask what everyones opinions are of the new Icmeler?????

Cant wait for September now to see it all myself!

For me every change since 2002 has been normally for the better, every year I go I say it's the best holiday yet.

I did have reservations about the prom widening and the scooter path but I will wait and see, I think I will miss the canal stores even though I don't spend much time down the canal, only one or two evenings during the holiday, I hope they tidy the area up which I am sure they will.

The laying of the roads with block paving which started last year is a fantatsic improvement, I believe they are completing the roads in the centre behind the Tansas road and upto the old village.

The big thing I am really looking forward to is the return of Savas and Cafe Anne on the beach front, we have really missed him the last couple of years, we used to walk from the old village just for his ice choclate drinks at the end of the day.

I think the pictures from Barnie are showing everything is coming together ready for the season to start its just a shame I still have 136 sleeps to go before I see it myself and unfortunatley we have decided not to book for 2012 as our eldest is starting Uni in September and I'm not sure if we will be able to afford it while also helping her out but hopefully with tightening our belts we may get a week but we think its looking more like 2013.

The canal stalls are all moving to a side street

Don't forget you didn't walk down the canal to look at the brown water you went there to look at the stalls.

When they are in their new place you will go to look at the stalls

I must disagree there JT, it was nice to sit sometimes and take a rest from the shops and perhaps talk to the locals who also used to use the seats there. I, for one, will miss that.

June 2011 will be our 6 th visit to Icemeler. The changes to Icemeler so far have all been for the better but we feel the changes can only go so far.

We think the main concern for many people is that Icemeler is turned into a mini Marmaris. No offence to anyone who likes Marmaris but we would not like this as Marmaris does not have the charm that Icemeler has.

You went to the canal area to talk to the market stall holders and sit and have a coffee or tea with them.

So when they all move to this street which will all be lit up and looking all very nice will you not then visit your friends and sit and chat with them there

The point I am making is if you went to look at the stalls and never went in those bars on the canal then what difference would it make whether they were at the canal the beach or a road in the town centre

[Sorry if I didnt make myself clear, but it was regarding the above comment. I did like to walk down the canal and sit and look at that brown water that you mentioned. This included sitting and talking to the stall holders and generally having a rest from the bright lights and the noise of the bars. I personally find it quite relaxing sitting next to a canal and just "people watching". I will miss the canal.

Glad to hear the stall holders are still in business - just a different location.....

There have been so many changes......have they moved the canal as well lol?

I think some of the changes are fine but like someone said we do not want another Marmaris. Perhaps too many changes too soon? We all loved Icmeler as it was, thats why people return year after year so I really think apart from widening the seafront part and perhaps improvements to some of the bars/restaurants there was no need for change at all. Why close the undergroud market? No one was forced to go in so if some didn't like it then no problem.

Yes canal still there along with the wooden seats on the fence so buy a beer from the shop and sit and look at the water, then go to see the stalls in the street

I can imagine it know John,sitting on those rustic wooden seats at the side of the canal,
The warm balmy evenings,listening to the lilt of Turkish music comeing from the Majestic,Venice and Canary bars.
Peace and Tranquility will reign along this sretch of the canal now that the shops have gone.

I too hope they dont turn Icmeler into a mini Marmaris as Im not keen on that place at all.

Its nice to have some improvements but hope they dont go too far
