Sorry this is a couple of weeks late but we are back from our first holiday in Icmeler. What a lovely place it is, surrounded by beautiful scenery and spectacular views. I've never known two weeks to pass so quickly and we didn't get to see or do half the things we'd intended, including calling into the
ICR office to say hello, or going to one of the party nights to meet other forum members. We did have a great time though and will definately return to Icmeler.
We stayed at the Mirage
Hotel which we thought was excellent (I'll post a seperate report on it). The food there was nice so we only ate out a few times. We tried the Waterfall and a couple of other restaurants, all serving nice food but the meal we enjoyed the most was at the Harmony Bar where we also watched the hilarious Stella Show. We went to try the Old Famous Kitchen but was put off going in because it was completely empty of customers - maybe next time.
I can't remember the names of most of the bars we went in but we did go to the Chill Bar and to Oscars and found found the staff in all of them pleasant and friendly. We also went in Wonder Boys but that horrible bump, bump, bump music was too loud for us oldies. The lads there though, were great with our 14 year old son, who has learning difficulties and they got him up dancing which he enjoyed.
Although there was some hassle to get us into bars and restaurants, it wasn't as bad as we'd expected. Maybe this was because we were wearing the hotel's AI wristbands but we also found there was less hassle to buy in the shops and markets. The one exception to this was at the Gold Centre in Marmaris, where from entering, we were followed around by very pushy salesmen who tried to bully us into buying over-priced jewellery. Needless to say we walked out without buying anything.
We went on a jeep safari which was interesting and great fun and also went on a boat trip around the lovely bays. Both these trips are excellent value for money for a full day out, including lunch and are not to be missed. We also had a wonderfully relaxing Turkish bath and oil massage at the Mersoy Hotel, another experience I would recommend.
I feel we didn't really see enough of
Icmeler and the surrounding areas because we spent a lot of time at our hotel as it was so good there. The next time we visit Icmeler, we will book for bed and breakfast or self catering accomodation rather than all inclusive to ensure we get out and about a bit more.
