So sad to be home

08 Jul 2006 14:09

We are only home 6 hours and already we are talking about going back to Icmeler! Our kids are so quiet except when they ask "what time is it in Icmeler - what is the weather like in Icmeler - what do we think Mehmet Ali is doing right now in Icmeler" Icmeler made quite an impression on our two children aged 8 and 6 and let me tell you all it made quite an impression on Michael and I too! Quite honestly we have never been anywhere quite so beautiful in our lives. We stayed in the Blue Star Apartments out by the old village and boy what a place the rooms were spotless, the staff exceptional, Gabriel the owner could not do enough for us - if we said we would like to do something or go somewhere - Voila - it was arranged!
He even programmed his number into our phones so that we could call on him at any time to pick us up or get something for us. Truly amazing.
The restaurants and bars were great fun - our kids fell in love with Mehmet Ali in the Old Famous and they had to have their daily fix - sometimes for lunch, sometimes for dinner and other times just for a refreshing drink but every time we went there we were made to feel so welcome - Try the House wine it is to die for!!!!! All the boys in the Old Famous were fabulous they treated you like family we all had tears in our eyes when we went to say bye yesterday - the only thing is we didn't get to say bye to Yvonne but We'll be back
The ICR Party Night on Wednesday was an absolute scream (dreading seeing John's photos) I was most impressed with Michael's Belly Dancing!!!!!!! but then again I had drank three bottles of the House wine so I guess even John Toohey looked handsome by then (only Kidding John)!!!!! Honest we didn't only eat in The Old Famous we did go to other restaurants too! Dreamboys was wonderful and Eric and Andy looked after us so well - The way they deliver the Cocktails is spectacular - what a great night.
The Turkish people were fantastic and would do anything for you - when shopping, nothing is a problem - we went to a jewellery store and the owner told us if we were not sure about something we could take it away with us and drop the money in when we had made our minds up (That would never happen back here!) the same thing happened in a leather store.
Before we left we were told that all the shop owners and restaurant owners "Hassle" you - this is not true - we looked on it as making new friends because they never forced themselves but never forgot you either - our friends arrived after we had been there a week and they couldn't believe how many people knew us.
The ICR transfers were fantastic we were picked up at Dalaman and in our Apartment in 1h 20m - not the same for out friends who didn't book with ICR but another "Tour Operator" and their transfer took 3hours.
We left through the New Dalaman Airport last night and can honestly say that the teething troubles mentioned in the forum have all been ironed out as we were straight through check-in and passport control however the prices of snacks are extortionate - so take water etc with you. KFC family bucket was 62YTL which worked out at 20 Sterling
All in all we had a fantastic time in Icmeler and can't wait to go back again - hopefully October
Thanks everyone at ICR :( so sad to be home

Hi Mick & Donna,
thanks for taking the time to tell us about your hol, it sounds as if you've had a brilliant time. is it the first time you've been to icmeler? it is nice to hear you say that even when people 'hassled' you, you turned it into a positive experience, the people who moan about it should do that and they might just find they enjoy it!
i am in the process of packing to go to ireland next week and its much more difficult to do than for turkey, i haven't got a clue whether to pack woolies or shorts - perhaps both!! never mind we go to icmeler on 1st sept and i'll know what to take there.
skilly

Wellcome home and thanks for a great report.
Its definitely a childens place Icmeler, as the waiters etc make so much fuss of them.
Thats your problem now, wanting to go back to Icmeler and knowing you may have to wait another year.

Thanks again for sharing your holiday memories with us all on ICR.
