Does anyone know if I would be able to exchange some Yeni Turkish Lira (withdrawn from circulation in January this year) for Turkish Lira at a bank in the UK, or do I have to wait until I get to Turkey to swap?
I know I'll be able to exchange them at a bank in Marmaris, but for convenience just wondered if anyone knew if any banks would do it here.
Cheers

As far as I am aware you need to change in Turkey, it's similar to our currency, old demonations can only be changed at the Bank of England. I believe there are only two Turkish banks that change Yeni Turkish Lira.

Take a book with you when you go to Ziraat Bank in
Marmaris - 2 and a 1/2 hour wait to get my old currency changed two weeks ago !
Had been told by the rep that
Icmeler Ziraat bank would change it , but no !

Thanks for your reply acko338!
I actually managed to change my Yeni Turkish Lira at the supermarket underneath the
ICR office!!
I didn't get the full value as there was a bit of commission to pay, but that was fine with me as it saved me having to go to
Marmaris and queue up for ages (yes I know what Turkish banks are like!!!) so happy all round!

the joke about turkish banks is that there is this special card or number system and if you have this card or number you can just walk into the bank and queue jump and get served almost straight away
its not fair
glad you got your money changed
