Hi everyone, I’m not sure why I’m asking this question as I have been to Turkey many times before, for some reason this year I’m in a bit of a quandary re medical insurance.
I am on medication for hypertension and have been for years (BP is fine and has been for a long time) I am prescribed the medication as a preventive and have never had a stroke.
Do I inform the medical insurance that I am on this medicine or ignore it ???

Hi, i also take medication for high blood pressure and mine also is well controlled and has been for some time. The insurance people do need to know what you are taking, dose etc, you will probably have to speak to them! But i have NEVER been charged extra, they put it down as disclosed !! Its better to be safe than sorry !! Jo

I've been on medication for years for high blood pressure and cholesterol and it has never affected my Insurance, If controlled I think you should be ok, but if it puts your mind at rest give your insurer a call.

Hi I wasn’t worrying about cost, more about because your being treated for hypertension does it mean that if anything happened relating to BP would you be covered or not

I always tell them about my mum and dads when I do there insurance, in the heat over there it's better to be safe than sorry

When I was looking for insurance due to recent surgery, most covered blood pressure as standard, so as I said earlier call them and check.

Hi fin54
If you have an existing travel policy, either annual or single trip, you must declare your condition to your Insurers or it could void the entire policy.
If you are taking out a new policy through an Insurance Broker then they will handle for you.
If you are taking out a new policy on the internet most sites have an automatic medical screening procedure - you just follow the instructions on the screen, it's usually very user friendly.
Some people get 'free' travel cover with their bank account but medical conditions must still be declared and suddenly it's not 'free' any more.
Don't worry - as long as you declare the condition all will be well.

I get my travel insurance with my bank account, like you I have controlled hypertension. I rang the company they use a few years ago and answered their questions.
I received a letter from them which confirms I am covered, I keep this in my policy brochure which I take with me.
With the medical costs involved nowadays, it has to be safer to declare the BP..
Have a great holiday,
Pete.

Thank you all for your replies, I have just phoned and informed my insurance company of the medication I am currently on for hypertension. I can now go on holiday to my ideal place in the sun and relax for two weeks lol.
Thank you once again for your help and assistance.

Couldn't agree more re the bank account insurance. I've had it for years and each year ring up to check the position. Good job i did because when I rang at the beginning of June just before going on hol, for the first time ever, they asked if I'd done a telephone medical? Thought it odd cos they've never asked that before, so I said no and they put me through to someone.
The only prescribed medication I take is strong antihistamines for a sun allergy, and I only ever take them when on hol. I've always declared it and nothing more's been said,
However, this year, I've had to pay £30 to be covered for that condition or risk not being treated under the medical insurance if it causes a problem while I'm away
Turns out that the bank's changed the firm they get the insurance through, hence the changes this year
