waves in icmeler

please can some one tell me how big can the waves break in july on icmeler beach thanks jan

Never really seen much in the way of waves on the beach, to be honest. Obviously if the weather takes a turn for the worse and it gets windy, you might get some waves, but the sea's always been pretty calm when we've been there.

I've never seen proper waves, always like a millpond in july / august. I think its because its a bay and is sheltered. I love waves though. On a boat trip you get more swell.

Icmeler isn't a tidal resort, hence the sea doesn't go in or out. The only time you see waves is when a boat passes, but by the time they have reached the shoreline, they have fizzled out. No sufing for you I am afraid

We have visited Icmeler many times now and i can tell you that we have seen many large waves......not on the beach........ but from the very friendly locals who wave us goodbye on our last night untill next time!!!

how mad is that?! can't get my head around it, after all the sea's the sea but in Icmeler the sea is more like a lake - can someone with far more knowledge than me explain why

Here's my pathetic attempt which explains why I'm an HR Advisor and not a scientist lol.

its all to do with the moon and scientific things like that.

Ebb tides, like Blackpool / Irish sea has an ebb tide, thats why the tide comes in for a few hours then goes out.
Southport you shout snap when you see the sea unless you walk for ages. But at southport pontins years ago when i was about 8 the tide came in mega close, it was a shock to everyone and was something to do with the moon cycle.

In spain costa brava they had no tide, but good waves sometimes a bit too good. Alcudia in Majorca only got proper waves in windy / bad weather (october time). Millpond the rest. But Santa Ponsa in September (eg 15 years ago) calm most days, no tide, but then some days proper waves.

Corfu no tide, but sometimes calm sometimes good waves.
Bays tend to be calmer.
Olu Deniz no tide, steep drop into sea but strongish wave.

Thats without googling lol.

But on boat trip the other year i remember the swell getting stronger because i had a swim in the sea and couldnt swim far because the undercurrent pulled you back towards the boat. But there was only gentle lapping onto the beach think it was a beach near to Turunc but cant remember exactly.

Not a scientific answer, but it's the Aegean sea which is generally a calm sea

At a guess the med is none tidal for two reasons.

1 - It's basically land locked except where it exits at the Gib straits.

2 - Its not big enough for the moon to have an effect.

The above are purely a guess.

The Mediterranean does have some tidal range, but it is slight compared with other places on earth. Because the Mediterranean is nearly landlocked, with the only major opening to open seas being the Strait of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean at large is not affected by the movement of large volumes of Pacific waters. The tidal range in mid-ocean is about 2 feet in some areas, which may seem strange at first. But in mid-ocean, there is so much water everywhere, that substantial movement of water at a given place is matched by similar movements all around, amounting to a kind of huge cycling shift. The effects of tide are greatest usually near coastlines, where the water moves up against the unmoving land.

On this odd occassion I didn't it must have been a piece of info deep in the grey matter that crawled its way to the surface.

Don't blame you for suggesting it though as wika is good for research and I do use it alot.
