New to Turkey- any tips?

I have just stumbled accross this site so have never posted anything on any forums here but thought I would give it a bash lol

Myself and my husband are going to Turkey on 20th June for 2 weeks for the very first time, we are staying at the Fortuna Beach Hotel as we thought the location seems perfect- has anyone stayed there? is it ok as I have heard some mixed reviews and am now starting to worry a bit. Also what it the night life like in Icmeler as we are late 20's and dont want to be going to bed at 10pm like we do at home

Any hints or tips that anyone could give would be grately appreciated

The Fortuna Beach is certainly in a great location. I haven't personally stayed there, but we met a couple last year who were staying there, and they seemed to think highly of it. As for the night life, most of the bars and restaurants etc do some form of entertainment, and there are two nightclubs - Eastenders and Pleasure - which stay open until the wee small hours. We've certainly never been short of anything to do - and even my 18-year-old daughter found plenty of entertainment to keep her occupied until the early hours. If you still need more excitement, Marmaris is only a short taxi trip away.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I did hear that Marmaris was a bit more busy but that didnt appeal to us, maybe we will take a trip there one day- is it far?
We liked the idea of a quiter place ( not too quite of course) but at least having one or two choices of things being there if we fancied a more wilder evening one night ( pretend were not getting old i guess lol) Do you know when the bars mostly stay open to, I heard they only stayed open to 12 is that right? being from Scotland we are certainly not used to that

Marmaris is only about 10-15 minutes away from Icmeler - you can take the dolmus or water taxi there, although they only run until certain times. In Icmeler itself, the bars stay open fairly late, although the music has to be turned down at midnight. The two nightclubs I mentioned are an exception to that, of course - I think they're open until around 3 or 4am. That's the beauty of Icmeler - it really does have something for everyone - from quiet places where you can just chill out and chat, to the livelier haunts with music and entertainment. I forgot to mention there's also the Stella Show (which I've never been to, but is very popular) - it's a drag act/comedy type of thing.

as blondie says the music is turned down in the bars at midnight - but that doesn't mean kicking out time

you can stay into the early hours if you don't fancy a nightclub or if you fancy it Pleasure and Eastenders are open till 4am

Thanks so much for the replies, I thought that the bars closed at midnight but thats good to know that they only turn the music down, it does sound like we have made the right choice in Icmeler!! just hope our hotel is ok but as but I believe if the food isnt great there then there is plenty of restaurants in the area and hopefully it is rather cheap too.

As tammi and blondie say the music does have to be turned down at midnight but it doesnt close. The music is still on but very quiet and most people stop. The nightlife in icmeler is awesome. When you go in most bars their are shows like michael jackson, tina turner, freddie, robotcop and many more. Their are lots of restaurants in Icmeler and all sorts of different foods. Turkish, chinese, indian, mexican, english and many more. You are spoilt for choice. If you like clubbing their are 2 nightclub which open about 12 oclock and close around 4am. These are called Eastenders and Pleasure which in my opinion are very good. After certain time which is 3am i think their is a foam party in eastenders aswell which i would recommend to try. Icmeler itself is amazing and love going every year.

there are 2 nightclubs in icmeler
called pleasure and eastenders
they stay open until 4am each morning
however most bars will stay open until the customers are finished drinking but the music may have to be turned off
if you find icmeler too quiet marmaris is just a 10 min ride away not far
im sure you will have an amazing holiday

We will be returning to the Fortuna Beach on June 7th. It is very clean and a fantastic location. We upgraded to a suite on arrival, about £10.00 per day but well worth it. The food is basic but plentiful, we never ate out during our visit last year and the staff are great.

Thanks so much for your reply, its nice to meet someone who has been to that hotel before and even better to know you are returing - guess it cant be that bad- what are the normal rooms like or are we better to upgrade to a suit, what is the difference?
Thanks for letting me know about the food I had read some reviews that it was awful so was starting to worry- what kind of food do you get there? Sorry about all the questions but havent had the chance to ask anyone who has actually stayed there yet.

Have a look at the link below for picture of suite, three seperate rooms on front of hotel, we asked on arrival so you can view your booked room then coose to upgrade. The food is Turkish fresh salads meats and stews, the fresh bread is lovely and the bar service is very civilised, i just stuck the odd 10 lira tip in the box and the drinks got stronger as the holiday went on.

Thanks for the Link I hadnt realised they had their own website, and thanks for advising about the food- we cant wait to go. I am always a strong believer that an odd tip here and there does wonders for a tad extra service lol so I will make sure I dont forget it here
