We've been advised by different people that we should take sterling instead of lira and travellers cheques as the turkish prefer pounds, is this right?. Also how much are the essentials like a pint of lager and 20 ciggies?.

Hi Lynn
If you scroll back through previos topics this comes up on a few occasions its a matter of your preferance whether you feel at ease taking cash but my personal choice is cash which you can exchange daily at most shops and bars, due to the low exchange rate I think the majority of us regulars ,so to speak, wont look at exchange in uk, the rate is definatly better in Icmeler also depends on your bank card some give a better rate at ATMs but dont go near the exchange shops

lynn, we take about £50 in lirs for the first day, then the rest in english notes, and just change it as and when we need to, alot of places accept english notes, you could also set up a nationwide account?
