I still use the good old 10% of the bill rule, but tend to add more if we like the food/staff.

And we always leave a big tip at the end of the holiday for the staff at the apartments!

Hi Womble.
Only take a bit of Lira with you say about £50 worth to get you started.
We will not know the echange rate untill we arrive in Turkey, this is the rate we will get in the supermarket or our favourite bar.

To be honest 250YTL to the £ doesnt sound a bad rate to me,it was 220 over the Christmas period and in October last year it was only about 235 to the £, at least its moving in the right direction for us holiday makers.

Tipping.
I dont tip everytime I have a coffee or a beer in a bar.
After my evening meal if I have enjoyed it and have had good service I only leave 2 or 3 lira if I leave more my wife goes round and picks it up and puts it in her purse.
Tipping is a personal thing but if you try and tip everytime it will soon make a hole in the holiday spends.
