Dalaman Duty Free

Postby Neets36 » 29 Sep 2006 20:12

This might have been asked before so apologies if so but when we fly into Dalaman next week, is there a duty free on arrival and if so, what are the prices like .. better than if I was to buy it at Manchester?

Many thanks.

Hi Neets

There is a big duty free shop on arrival (next to the baggage reclaim), but I didn't go in so can only assume the prices are pretty much the same as they were before - the prices were about the same leaving Dalaman (price of food and drink in the restaurants was also the same unfortunately!!!)

Hope that helps

Sorry to stick my nose in but I found the prices at Bodrum airport to be disgusting, 16 lira for two cups of coffee :x I had been warned and was armed with sandwiches and water and thankfully my flight was on time. Buy your souvenirs in the resort as it's much cheaper and bring your owm eats to the airport. Pity help any poor sod who has a long flight delay.

The duty free prices were OK though. :D

allowance

Postby taz » 30 Sep 2006 06:21

You will find that on leaving Turkey you are only allowed 200 cigarettes and 1ltr of spirit.......coming into Turkey you can bring 600 cigarettes and 2ltrs of spirit.

Prices are generally cheaper on the plane or on arrival at Dalaman airport in the duty free shop.

Allowances by law are exactly the same coming in ti Turkey and also going out so legally you are allowed to bring in only 200 and also take into the UK from Turkey only 200.

The shops at Dalaman are now saying that you are allowed to take into the UK 600 smokes and this is a load of rubbish.

If you want to take the chance then that is up to you and tellin UK custom officials that the shopkeepers in Turkey told you that the allowance is 600 will not wash as it is plastered all over the walls of the duty free shops and airport in the UK and also when you get off the plane at the UK walking to customs it is also on the walls.

We were told we are allowed to take 9 packets (1800) ciggys per person by Dalaman staff at duty free shop as the law had been changed 2 weeks previous.
People were buying this amount but i decided against as there was 3 of us and could not see the customs letting us back through with 27x 200 ciggys i would like to know for next time we go what the allowance is as i would not like the customs to confiscate £300+ of duty free.
I agree the airport was a dear with 2 cokes and 1 coffee costing us as much as a meal out in Icmelerbut then again same all over the world so not really ripped off as Manchester airport is a lot dearer.

As above 200 allowed into the UK.

Of course they will sell you more but if you get caught then that is down to you

A warning to anyone buying cigarettes on the plane. we flew with My Travel and on our way to Dalaman we were asked if we would like to pre-order our duty free and that it would guarantee our seats together on the homeward flight. we ordered ours and paid with euros instead of £'s sterling.
Whilst on our hols my husband was puzzled by the reciept and when he checked it we had been charged about £8 more than if it had been £'s.
On the way home we asked for our duty free that had been pre-ordered and they said there had been no orders pre ordered on that flight and if we had not got our reciept I don't think we would have got them!!
We only got seats together because we were first in the queue at dalaman, NOT because we had pre-ordered.
When we checked why we had been charged more for paying with euros the stewardess said it was My Travel policy and that the cabin staff that took our order should have made us aware that it would cost more in euros ( which he definitley did not!)
We were not robbed in Turkey or misled in any way but couldn't believe that this had happened on an English airline and we were not properly informed by staff that spoke our own language :x

Hi can anyone tell me if perfume prices are better in Dalaman than UK. Also, any idea if they sell Clarins cosmetics. Thanks for any info.

One more day to go :D :D

Hi,

This year we were only allowed 200 cigs from Manchester to Dalaman but 5 litres - yes 5litres of spirits per adult!!

On the way back, we bought 1 litre each back.

Sorry, didn't have time to check out perfume. They did have special offers on though.

Airport was so organised - no delays therefore no time for last minute shopping! :(

Well am back and had a fantastic week in icmeler.Great improvement in the airport at Dalaman. But it was very quiet..unlike the dreaded Gatwick! Food court prices horrendous.19 ytl for a macdonalds meal...£3.59 in Gatwick. All food outlets seemed about the same averaging 20 ytl for a meal. Duty free fags and booze good value but perfume and cosmetics more or less the same as here. Poor old Turks are struggling a lot of places have closed early and it looks like some wont be reopening next year..an awful season for them.We had wall to wall sunshine, lovely!
