DEVASTATED!!!

Postby slimelaine » 10 Aug 2012 22:25

I was due to fly out to Icmeler today with my husband and two children which we were all looking forward to. My loving dad passed away yesterday after being diagnosed with cancer only last Thursday. This is a very difficult time for us and to make things even worse Thomas Cook are not interested as I had not got round to sorting out insurance due to being at he hospital for the last 3 weeks. I tried to re-schedule a flight for September sometime which I thought would be easy, I explained I would have to contact my employer, my sons school and the sixth form college my daughter is at. This is very difficult as they are closed for the Summer holidays. Thomas Cook said we had 24 hours to get it sorted. The reason I am putting this on here is a warning to others book your insurance as soon as you book your holiday!!!!! We are not covered on the credit card either. We shall be taking this further my dad was a fighter and he would have wanted us to take further action in these exceptional circumstances.

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your father and I hope you manage to sort something out with your holiday.

I can't think of anything to help but I'm sure someone will be along who can offer some advice. Travel insurance should always be purchased as soon as the holiday is booked for instances such as this and for any medical conditions diagnosed after the purchase of insurance.

Again condolences for you and your family's loss x

Sorry to hear of the loss of your father Elaine. The last thing you need at the moment is hassle from Thomas Cook.

If they will not extend the time limit they've given you I would take the risk and book for September provided it is okayed by your employer. In the circumstances the school and college would more than likely agree to it but just inform them in writing of the circumstances and send it to the school as soon as possible as many of the heads pop in now and again to deal with the Admin.

If Thomas Cook will agree to extending the time limit for a week the Headteacher or Deputy will be in the school next Thursday as the A levels are out then. The Principal and other staff should be in the college as it will be enrolment day. They're in the schools and colleges quite early so I would ring them early to avoid the 'rush' or better still go to the school and college to speak with them.

It is also worthwhile to give another ring to Thomas Cook as another person could be more understanding. A few years ago we couldn't go on a holiday booked with Thomsons. I rang to see if I could transfer the holiday to the following year, the response I had was that I couldn't. I rang again the next day and was told the same. The third time I rang I had a much more sympathetic person who said 'no problem, I can arrange that for you'. I was relieved but at the same time annoyed with the first two people that I had spoken to as they could have helped if they wanted to, just they couldn't be bothered.

Hope this helps and that you have a holiday in September that the family can look forward to.

Sorry to hear your news and that TC couldn't give a dam, makes you wonder if some of them are human .
It is worth talking to someone else, I've had problems before and as one person has said no another has then said no problem. Hope you get it resolved soon.

we had to come home from 2 holidays in icmeler due to my grandparents passing away
we always fly with TC and they are under an obligation due to death to refund the price of your holiday
either that or if you want to transfer the flights then this can be done by paying the difference plus an admin charge of £20 per person
hope this helps
im sorry for your loss
