Easy Jet

Postby Roy » 30 Mar 2012 17:01

Hi,
Considering booking outbound only in April with Easy Jet for the first time (Edinburgh to Dalaman) has anyone any opinion, good or bad, or any advice to offer?
Thanks in anticipation
Roy.

Really don't have a problem with Easy Jet. Fair amount of leg room, Aircraft reasonably new and they try to run to time. Watch out for the size of your hand luggage, it will be checked, Only one piece of hand luggage per person allowed to be carried on board. They are very strict. Take some eats with you if you don't want to pay in-flight prices. Try to be early (at the front) at all stages of the process of check in & boarding as it's a fee for all.
Then sit back, relax, enjoy the ride till you arrive back in paradise.

Hi Roy we just booked last weekend to fly with easy jet. The only thing we noticed about the booking was the final figure you had to pay was a long way from the first figure you are given for your flight. I know that they all do the same but easy jet even charged for booking on line. so go through the whole procedure as though you were going to pay and see what tha actual cost of the ticket will be. remember it doesnt cost you anything if you dont give your card numbers. Have fun!!

Many thanks David, Keith & Sue, that is reassuring & will now go ahead & book. Hand luggage - is that by bag size or actual weight? That also would only be at check-in & would not affect you duty free purchases - is that correct with Easy Jet too?
Appreciated

Hi Roy
We have used Easyjet a number of times and found them to be very good. There is no weight restriction on hand luggage it will be by size 56 x 45 x 25 cm, and as long as you can fit it in the overhead locker.
I personally would recommend purchasing speedy boarding, I know its extra money £13 one way but it is well worth it. I would check if they have a dedicated check in desk for SB's at Edinburgh airport which avoid the ong check in queues.
You also get on the plane first so you can choose your extra leg room seats :) That way you are not rushing and having to stand at the gate as you get called through first. x

Hi again, Hand luggage restriction is by bag size not weight ( If its the right size and you can lift it you can take it). They only allow one piece of hand luggage eg. handbags, computers, duty free etc. all have to fit in your hand luggage. This rule is sometimes interpreted differently at different airports. On occasion I have been allowed to carry on the duty free in a carrier bag. On other occasions it's been a scramble to get it into the hand luggage.

Hope it helps

You can also buy a Rufus Roo travel jacket to 'wear' your hand luggage so you can take more on the plane at no extra charge. I bought one a few months ago and as long as you don't mind looking like a Michelin man then there's no problem

Hi Again,
Many thanks to all for their comments, much appreciated; that's one of the great things about this site is the friendly attitude & helpful advice you get when you post a question or request.
Have now booked, including speedy boarding, & will get large holdall to the dimensions allowed - will resist the Rufus Roo but thanks anyway Dragon - think I have seen one on TV, the One Show or something like that.
Maybe just as well having read in this mornings papers about increase of air taxes as of today following the bloody budget!!!
Now need to post a query about transferring money electronically from my bank here at home once I get to Icmeler & open a bank account there.
Can't wait to get there now.
Cheers again
Roy.

I heard that easy jet were doing a trial at Luton to start with allocating seats, that will be a lot better than having to pay for speedy boarding

Flew with Easy Jet for the first time last year. A bit iffy about it after the program on TV, but we were offered a good deal. Absolutely no problems at all. Took off on time and landed early. As Asye recommended and I do too...pay for speedy boarding, it is excellent. We managed to get the front seats by the door going and coming back. Only trouble was, there was a draft from under the door and my feet were frozen  Staff were very friendly, but as has been said, onboard food was expensive. Would definitely use Easy Jet again

Easy Jet may do away with Priority Boarding if they allocate the seats

I've flown with Easy Jet once and I was quite impressed.. Loads more leg room then most I've flown with and the staff were great fun and really down to earth and friendly.. and we got to sit wherever we wanted.
I'd definitely recommend them based on my experiences.

We always use Easyjet for winter trips to Istanbul and have never had any problems. In december 2010 we went out just before xmas and our flight back was cancelled due to snow at Luton. Being on a budget airline, we half expected to be sleeping in the airport for the next few days, but all credit to Easyjet, they put us up in a 4 star hotel and kept us informed of the situation until they could get us on a flight home 4 days later, and once home they very quickly supplied us with the necessary paperwork to claim for the delay on our insurance. It will be interesting to see how the allocated seating system works. Hopefully, they'll take lessons from Pegasus, the turkish budget airline, who allocate seats, usually board from the front and rear doors, and make boarding a breeze.

Katie, I know they have a legal obligation, but I was impressed by the way the situation was handled. I have friends who were stranded with some of the more upmarket airlines and they were treated like cattle, left at the airport for hours without anything to eat or drink and put in substandard hotels. They also had to wait weeks to get the paperwork for the insurers. Given the bed press Easyjet get, we were pleasantly surprised with the way they dealt with it, and we were able to enjoy our extra 4 days.
