Returning after 6 years

Postby Caltonian » 29 Feb 2012 22:54

Hi all, I first went to Icmeler in 2006 with my kid, and this place was a godsend. I am returning at long last with my partner and our sons (both age 14) so naturally this was the first place I started looking for information again.

We aren't booked quite yet but we're settled on dates, and we're going to be staying at the Grand Aquarium. Out of the options offered to the kids, this was the hands-down winner. The reviews have been pretty good all round, and it's within easy reach of the centre of Icmeler via the dolmus. Anyone been and can offer a personal opinion?

Anyway, I was just wondering if anything major has changed about the place in the last 6 years or does it still have the same great atmosphere, bars, restaurants, etc? Has it got any more expensive for beers, eating out, etc (normal inflation aside)?

I hope it hasn't lost the charm and ambience that sets it apart from bigger, brasher resorts.

Hi, the grand aqaurium is quite a way back from even the main road in icmeler
we've stayed at the club aquarium which was good but still way back

i personally would take a look at some hotels nearer the front so you can walk around the front take in the bars during the day and easy to go to the beach etc

when you are that far back you are reliant on buses and walking all the time

its nice aslong as you are not going july or august

there are much better cheaper options down in the town and then you can spend what you've saved on other things

you must go to the new stella show which has been improved over the last couple of years.

Hoping to go back again this year to the prince apartments 50 metres from the beach.

No sure if ICR do these apartments

have a good holiday

Thanks for the reply Dave.

We are pretty much settled on the Grand Aquarium, the kids love the pool and we have found a great deal for it so I doubt we will be budging from there. I'll be checking out the best places to eat and be entertained over the next few months so cheers for the suggestion, i'll need to look in to it it sounds like a good laugh.

Thanks JT, we have had a good look around the reviews and pics on here

I can't get the video to work, is there some other format available for them? All the videos on here bring up a lengthy WMP error that I don't understand and don't know where to start to fix

Thanks gem, sounds great! The pictures and reviews are filling us all with excitement.

More so me and my kid, as we have both been before and know how great a resort Icmeler is. My missus and her kid are still unsure what to expect so i'm looking forward to them being very pleasantly surprised when we get there ;)

Have you been to Tommy's before? I gather it's very close to the Grand Aquarium and well worth a visit.

we stayed quite far back in resort last july just past the oren hill and walking into the main bit was one of the things we really enjoyed.
that way you get a chance to see the whole of icmeler which we hadnt seen the previous 3 times we had been when we stayed near the beach.
we have to have a year off this year as wife is expecting but next year its definatly the old town area again for us.

Thanks for all the great info peli! I've signed up to Tommy's facebook, it's the first time i've seen any pictures of the place and it looks even better than I expected. I've a feeling we will be spending plenty of time in there over the course of the holiday ;)

I heard his quiz nights are really good, on a Wed or Thurs?

The missus has some mobility problems so we won't have any qualms about using the dolmus to get us around. We've already accepted that it's a (small) price we have to pay for getting around the town and at least it is there and regular. Plenty of the bigger resorts around the world don't have such a 'luxury', so it will be great for us. Added to that the cheap taxis, and Icmeler is just about the perfect place for our requirements. One of the main reasons for making the Grand Aquarium one of the options for the kids was it's proximity to a dolmus route.

Shame it's still another 6 months away, but just gives us more time to plan and get excited about it
