How long do the hotels keep your passport for?

Hey all,
I read on here that the hotels take your passport off you on arrival, security reasons or something!!
How long do they keep it for?
Just wondering, as I'll be bringing travellers cheques so want to know how much TL to get in the uk to tide us over.

Hi Chris, we got ours back next morning at Bonjour,ok

Always next morning or within a few hours although this year the Sahin Palace didn't want our passports but we were each given a form to fill in with all our details, passport numbers, expiry date etc but also our address's. Don't know if this is a new thing.
Just a tip for members- always have a photocopy or take a note of your passport number etc just in case of loss and keep it in a different place to your passport!

We always take a copy of the passport with us,plus we leave one at home,regards travellers cheques,we write all the numbers down and take one with us plus we also leave one at home,so if anything goes missing in Turkey you have always got back up at home.

They only take your passport details which is a requirement by law so you should have them back at least by the next day....they only copied ours and gave them straight back in June this year.

They have to take your passport details by law,for tax purposes on who has stayed with them,we got ours back a couple of hours later.
