Turkish Lira Notes

Postby iwanttogothere » 24 Jul 2010 20:02

Hi all,

we have about 80 YTL left over from our last holiday to Turkey a couple of years ago. Having just got some YTL for our upcoming holiday, we have noticed that some of the notes have changed from a couple of years - it seems that the 20, 10 and 5 YTL have changed slightly.

Can anyone tell me if the notes I still have from 2 years ago are still accepted in Turkey or will they be refused?

Many thanks.

I beleive the "new" or "Yeni" TL [YTL] have been withdrawn but that you can exchange them at the bank ie you can't spend them, but can exchange them

I'll have a hunt around the web and post a link unless someone more knowledgeable than me posts first

whoops, just read the link properly and you can exchange them up to 31/12/19 - they are useless from 1/1/2020

Thanks. Not sure if I can change them just at any bank in Turkey though. I'll see if I can find out any more info and if I do I will post a link here just in case anyone else is wondering the same thing :D

The bulletin states that the discontinued YTL notes can be redeemed at branchs of "The Central Bank of The Republic of Turkey "until the end of 2019.
I do not know if there is a branch of this Bank in Icmeler but if not there should be one in Marmaris from where you will be able to exchange them...
