7am flight from Manchester with Thomas Cook. No problems or delays with flight. Pre booked seats by the exit doors which meant on arrival at Dalaman we were first off the plane and first at passport/visa control.(that's a first for us). Did not wait long for luggage and before we knew it we were stepping out onto the ramp for our transfer. Strangely we didn't get that usual wallop you get when the heat hits as you step outside. Transfer was waiting for us and we were soon on our way to Icmeler.
Now, we were staying at the Bilnur aparts, we stayed here 2 years ago so we knew what to expect. Unfortunately, our planned 3 week stay here was cut short and we transferred to the Rhodes aparts instead. Should have just gone there in the first place. The Bilnur didn't appreciate any discussions about other aparts with other guests. They informed us Thomas Cook would not be happy about us encouraging their guests to try other places. If you call saying certain places were nice and that people may like them as encouraging them to stay somewhere else then, so be it. Really it was they who didn't like talk of other accommodations. Things were a little uncomfortable after that so we checked out and checked in elsewhere.
We didn't think Icmeler was that quiet. Maybe a lack of brits but it seemed busy enough to us. Alright the restaurants weren't bursting at the seams but there were enough tourists about the place. There was certainly a lot more traffic than previous years. Whatever has happened to the family of 4 on a moped? Lots of Turkish tourists in big flash cars.
As I said earlier the heat on arrival was not as intense, but that was only on our first couple of days. After that normal service was resumed and we were treated to the usual high temperatures you can expect for August.
Stand out places to eat were, Sidiks, Meryem, Winehouse and Golden moon champagne. A little gem of a place was Home bistro, no airs or graces just good simple food.
TinTins bar is a fave of ours and I can honestly say we have never seen it so busy in August. Some nights it was standing room only so that was really good to see.
Another first was a shopping trip into Marmaris. Lots of fun and hope to repeat the trip next year. Didn't buy anything just browsed around lots of shops.
Exchange rate peaked at 4.60 and dropped to 4.43 when we left.
A couple of boat trips, water taxi to Turunc and not much else later and our 3 weeks were up.
No issues with return transfer or flight and we were soon back in Manchester. Accommodation and flights booked for next year, only 49 weeks to wait. If you are yet to travel, Icmeler still retains it charm and warm welcome so enjoy your stay.
